Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
EL PASO, TX.---The Shreveport-Bossier Captains allowed a season-high 21 runs and 26 hits to the El Paso Diablos at Cohen Stadium Tuesday night, falling in a rout 21-6. The Captains had just one hit off Diablos starter David Whigham (2-1) until the seventh inning when the game was already out of reach.
A night after the Captains hit three home runs, the Diablos notched three dingers themselves, including an inside-the-park home run for third baseman Martin Parra. His third inning shot to dead centerfield got by Joey Gathright and rolled all the way to the wall, allowing Parra and the runner ahead of him, Gerardo Avila, to scamper home.
El Paso tagged Captains starter Danial McHenry (1-1) for 10 runs on 12 hits in just 2.2 innings. He allowed a line drive two run homer to first baseman Kyle Nichols and the inside-the-parker to Parra. The El Paso third baseman would end the night going 3-for-6 with four RBIs. Nichols had a four-for-five night with four runs RBI double, giving the Captains shortstop five RBIs in the first two games of the series. Mike Provencher would knock in Fricther with a two-run homer to left field for his second home run in as many nights.
Shreveport-Bossier would add three more in the top of the ninth of Diablos reliever Juan Medina. Provencher would pick up his third RBI of the night with a single and Brian Peterson hit a two-run triple to make it 21-6, the final tally.
Shreveport-Bossier threw two position players on the mound in the eighth, infielders Jeff Hulett and Joe Urtuzuastegui. Urtuzuastegui was able to retire Butch Ballez and Stephen Douglas in the eighth after the Diablos sent twelve men to the plate for the second time in the game.
The Captains and Diablos play game three of their four game series tomorrow night at Cohen Stadium as Captains starter Ryan DiPietro will look to improve his record to 3-0 and get his team back on track in the process. First pitch is at 7:05 local time, 8:05 central.
