
Wingnuts Drop Series to RailCats

GARY, IN- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 11-4 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at US Steel Yard on Wednesday afternoon.
The RailCats scored five early runs to distance themselves from the Wingnuts and take two of three in the series.
With first and third and one out in the bottom of the first, Cristian Guerrero singled on a soft groundball through the left side to give the RailCats a 1-0 lead. After Jeff Beauchum singled to load the bases, Kyle Haines hit a line drive single down the right field line that made it 2-0.
The RailCats scored three more times in the second. Guerrero drew a bases loaded walk with one out and was followed by an RBI single through the left side from Beauchum. Kyle Haines made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly to right.
Gary scratched out an unearned run in the fifth and scored three more in the seventh on a bases clearing triple to right-center by Mike Rohde.
Jorge Cortes doubled home two runs in the top of the seventh to get the Wingnuts on the board at 9-2, but the RailCats scored single runs in both the seventh and eighth frames. Juan Richardson hit a two-run home run for the Wingnuts in the top of the ninth for the game's final margin.
Trent Lare took the loss for the Wingnuts, allowing six runs, five earned, in 5.0 IP. Lare struck out three, walked three, and allowed 11 hits.
Scott Shaw earned the win, throwing six shutout innings. Shaw struck out six and allowed five hits. The Wingnuts were charged with four errors in the game.
