First of Two Games on the Weekend

1st Place in Eastern Division, Eastern Conference
This will be the sixth of eight meetings between the Phantoms and Penguins this season. Wilkes-Barre currently leads the season series 4-1 but Adirondack winning back on January 21st at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia 4-2 as Michael Ryan scored the game-winner with 1:30 remaining in the third. Wilkes-Barre is on a 3-game losing streak and are 4-6-0-0 in their last 10. With injuries to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has lost forwards Dustin Jeffrey who led the Baby Pens in points (45), Eric Tangradi who is second on the team in goals (18) and Tim Wallace who has 15 goals & 28 points in 45 games. Nick Johnson currently leads Wilkes-Barre with 19 goals and 37 points in 46 games while All-star Brett Sterling has accounted for 17 goals. Goaltenders John Curry and Brad Thiessen continue to split the time in net with each netminder having 18 wins. This season against Adirondack, Curry is 3-1 and a .916 save percentage while Thiessen is 1-0 and a .944 save percentage. On special teams, the Penguins are 18th in the AHL on the power play (17.0%) and 22nd on the penalty kill (80.7%).

This will be the fifth of eight meetings between the Phantoms and Senators. Binghamton leads the season series 3-1 but Adirondack in comeback fashion defeated the Senators 4-3 back on January 26 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Andrew Rowe and Luke Pither scored less than 2 minutes apart with about five minutes remaining in the third. This is only the second time Binghamton has made a trip to Adirondack this season. Binghamton is 4th in the AHL on the power play (21.9%) but are ranked 19th on the penalty kill (81.4%). Corey Locke is the team and league leader in assists (48) and leads the team in points (64). Rookie Bobby Butler leads all rookies with 22 goals in 46 games. Goaltender Barry Brust is 17-12-1-0 with a 2.61 GAA and .924 save percentage while backup Mike Brodeur is 2-5-0-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .896 save percentage. Binghamton is 9-0-0-0 when leading after two and 0-8-1-0 when trailing after two. The Senators are 5-3-1-1 over the last ten games and are on a 3-game point streak.
Week 17 Game Results
February 4, 2011 - Syracuse 5 @ Adirondack 0
For the fourth time this season and second time at the Glens Falls Civic Center, the Phantoms were shutout. Ex-Adirondack Phantom Patrick Maroon scored two goals in his first game back at the GFCC since being traded on November 21 along with David Laliberte for Danny Syvret and Rob Bordson. Johan Backlund started the game for Adirondack and made 12 saves on 16 shots before being pulled after giving up the fourth goal midway through the second period. Michael Leighton came on in relief stopping 8 of 9. J.P. Levasseur who came into the game winless against the Phantoms, made 31 saves to earn his seventh win of the season. Adirondack had a 5-on-3 for 1:08 in the early in the first period with their best opportunity coming off the stick of Danny Syvret who rang one off the post on the power play. Adirondack is now 5-1 against the Crunch this season with two games remaining in the season series.
February 5, 2011 - Adirondack 4 @ Hamilton 0
Denis Hamel recorded the Adirondack Phantoms second hat trick in eight days while Mike Testwuide scored on his 24th birthday to defeat the Bulldogs for the first time in eight tries over the past two seasons. Michael Leighton made 20 saves to earn his 30th career AHL shutout and third win this season. It was Leighton's first shutout in the AHL since March 21,2008 as a member of the Albany River Rats when he made 35 saves against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Adirondack went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

-Denis Hamel recorded the Adirondack Phantoms second hat-trick in 8 days (Michael Ryan on 1/29 in 6-4 win at Syracuse) after not posting a hat-trick since Rob Sirianni did it in the last regular season game at the Spectrum on April 10, 2009 against Hershey.
-Michael Leighton recorded his 30th career AHL shutout on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton. Leighton leads the Phantoms in GAA (2.41) and save percentage (.917)
