Adirondack Phantoms News Release

Wed., Nov. 16 - Bridgeport 1, Phantoms 0: The Phantoms were shut out for the first time this season on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to the Sound Tigers in front of 3,369 at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Bridgeport netminder Chris Madden stopped all 29 shots the Phantoms fired at him over the course of the evening. Jamie Storr was nearly equal, stopping 23 of 24 opportunities, but yielded the deciding goal to Kevin Colley with less than three minutes remaining in the first period.

Fri., Nov. 18 - Phantoms 3, Hershey 2 (OT): Pat Kavanagh scored at 1:58 of overtime to give the Phantoms a 3-2 triumph over the Bears before 8,841 at the Wachovia Spectrum. After a scoreless first period, the Phantoms jumped out to a 2-0 lead late in the second, getting goals from Ben Eager at 17:26 and Josh Gratton with just 16 seconds remaining in the frame. But Hershey came back to tie the game in the third on goals by Graham Mink at 5:46 and Eric Fehr at 14:41. Brent Kelly set up Kavanagh's winner, a roofer over the shoulder of Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi. Jamie Storr got the win for Philadelphia.

Sat., Nov. 19 - Hershey 7, Phantoms 2: Hershey was granted 18 power plays, nine of them 5-on-3 situations, and converted on seven of them en route to a 7-2 victory in front of 8,562 at GIANT Center. Six of the Hershey goals were scored while the Phantoms were two men down, including four goals in a consecutive stretch of 7:21 in the third period that the Phantoms skated two players short. The 18 man-advantage opportunities allowed Hershey to outshoot the Phantoms 49 to 18. The game set or tied several franchise records, which are detailed below.

Sun., Nov. 20 - Phantoms 2, Norfolk 1: Martin Houle made his American Hockey League debut in grand fashion, stopping 20 of 21 Norfolk chances as Philadelphia took the 2-1 win at the Wachovia Spectrum. Pat Kavanagh continued his offensive prowess of late, scoring one goal and assisting on Brent Kelly's eventual game winner. Nathan Barrett spoiled Houle's shutout bid with a tally at 12:40 of the third period. Adam Munro took the loss, stopping 19 of 21.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

Wednesday, Nov. 23: PHANTOMS at Norfolk, 7:15 - Philadelphia returns to Norfolk Scope for a Thanksgiving eve affair with the Admirals (Chicago Blackhawks), ending an extended home-and-home series between the two clubs. The Phantoms took two wins over the Admirals on the Virginia coast the weekend of Oct. 21-22, with Jamie Storr picking up a 1-0 shutout in the second tilt. Norfolk starts the week with a record of 6-9-1-1 for 14 points, which puts them fifth in the East Division.

Friday, Nov. 25: PHANTOMS at Albany, 7:00 - The Phantoms start a three-game in three-night set at Albany's Pepsi Center with a matchup against the River Rats (New Jersey Devils). Philadelphia is 1-1 against Albany this season, taking a 4-2 win at the Wachovia Center on Oct. 9 and dropping a 3-2 decision in the Empire State on Oct. 15. The Rats start the week in seventh place in the Atlantic Division with a 5-11-0-1 record for 11 points.

Saturday, Nov. 26: Bridgeport at PHANTOMS, 7:35 - It'll be a big hockey day in Philadelphia as the Phantoms and Flyers stage a doubleheader at the Wachovia Center. The 7:35 start against the Sound Tigers (New York Islanders) comes after the parent clubs of the two teams play at 2:00. The Phantoms are 0-2 against Bridgeport this season, with a 3-2 loss at home on Nov. 11 and the 1-0 setback in Connecticut next week.

Sunday, Nov. 27: PHANTOMS at Binghamton, 5:05 - Philadelphia returns to New York's Southern Tier on Sunday afternoon for a tilt with Binghamton (Ottawa Senators), which enters the week 5-9-1 for 12 points and in seventh place in the East Division. The Senators will be looking for retribution from last Sunday's loss to the Phantoms, while Philadelphia will be trying to erase a rough 5-4 overtime loss to Binghamton during their last visit to the Arena on Nov. 12.

All games will be available for viewing via B2 Networks on the Phantoms website, www.phantomshockey.com.

CAPTAIN'S COUNTDOWN

Phantoms captain John Slaney had two points on the week to leave himself just six points away from becoming the AHL's all-time leading scorer among defensemen. Slaney has 448 career points and is chasing Steve Kraftcheck, the current leader at 453 career points.

A BEAR OF A NIGHT

The Phantoms suffered through an unusual evening on Saturday night at Hershey's GIANT Center. Philadelphia was whistled for 18 penalties over the course of the night, nine of which provided the Bears with 5-on-3 situations. Hershey scored goals on six of those five-on-threes and the seventh on a five-on-four. In the third period, the Phantoms were down two men for a consecutive stretch of 7:21. The game broke or matched four franchise records:

* Power play goals against - 7: broke previous record of 4 that had occurred on several occasions

* Power play goals, both teams - 8: tied record set on March 31, 1999 vs. Worcester

* Shots against - 49: tied record that occurred twice before, the last time coming on Feb. 3, 2002 vs. Rochester

* Power play goals against, single period - 4 in 3rd period: tied record set in second period vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Dec. 13, 2002.

FULL SLATE CONTINUES

For the second week in a row, the Phantoms will play four games in five nights. Wednesday's road game in Norfolk, followed by Friday's game at Albany, Saturday's at home vs. Bridgeport, and Sunday's at Binghamton make up the second leg of a span that sees the Phantoms play eight games in 12 nights.

KAVANAGH NOMINATED FOR PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Phantoms have nominated Pat Kavanagh for the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week Award for the second consecutive week. Again this week, Kavanagh lifted the Phantoms to a pair of victories. On Friday night, he scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Phantoms a 3-2 win over Hershey. Then on Sunday, he scored a goal and added an assist in a 2-1 win over Bridgeport. Kavanagh earned first star honors in Friday's game and second-star honors in Sunday's affair. Kavanagh now has points in six of his last eight games and has eight goals in that eight-game stretch.

WELCOME TO THE LEAGUE

Rookie goaltender Martin Houle made an impressive American Hockey League debut on Sunday in the 2-1 win over Norfolk. Houle made 20 saves on 21 Admirals shots, earning first star of the game honors. Houle was reassigned last Thursday from Trenton of the ECHL, where he had a 2.10 GAA and a .935 save percentage in seven games for the Titans.
