Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms topped the Bloomington Thunder 3-2 in overtime Saturday night in Illinois. For the second straight night, Youngstown came from behind to defeat the Thunder.
"We've been down and found ways to fight back a few times now this season. It's obviously something we don't want to continue, falling behind early, but at the same time we know we're always in the game," said Phantoms forward Alex Esposito.
Bloomington jumped out to an early lead behind a power play goal by Jeremy Davies. Davies was able to beat Phantoms goaltender Colin DeAugustine on the backhand for his eighth goal of the year.
The Phantoms would respond just over three minutes later, when Patrick Kramer snuck a rebound past Thunder goalie Logan Halladay. It was Kramer's fourth goal of the season, assisted by Kevin Conley and Alex Esposito.
Bloomington would take the lead back early in the second with another power play goal, scored by Logan Lambdin. Youngstown would respond less than three minutes later with a power play goal of their own. Jason Cotton scored his first goal in a Phantoms sweater to tie the contest, assisted by Connor Moore and Ryan Shea. Shea's assist was his first ever USHL point. Moore's helper extended his point streak to five games.
The teams would stay tied at two for the final 35 minutes, needing overtime to determine a winner. In overtime, Phantoms forward Cam Morrison would score the game winning goal. Morrison took the puck to the net and would not be denied, beating Halladay on a rebound to complete the comeback for Youngstown.
"We know how tight the race is going to be for a playoff spot, and I think we're starting to come together as a team and really play for each other," Morrison said.
Youngstown will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Iowa to take on the USHL's top team, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
