Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE - Nick Rivera scored his 14th goal of the year but it was the visiting Lincoln Stars who held on for the 3-1 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 3,730 at Ralston Arena on Saturday night. It was the seventh sellout of the season for the Lancers.
Ethen Frank moved down the left side and scored an unassisted goal early in the game. After gaining speed through the neutral zone, Frank went around the defense on his left wing side, and lifted the puck up and over the left shoulder of Lancers goaltender Kris Oldham for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Frank's eighth of the year, unassisted, at the 3:55 mark of the opening period.
Early in the second period, Ethen Frank struck again to give the Stars a 2-0 lead. After Kris Oldham stopped a hard wrist shot by Will D'Orsi, the puck slid through and laid behind Oldham right in front of the goal line. Frank got the final touch on the puck for his second of the night and ninth of the year for the two-goal lead. Assists on the goal were credited to D'Orsi on the original shot, and Biagio Lerario.
Omaha got on the board late in the middle period. Brannon McManus chipped a puck around the defense inside his own zone to create a two-on-one rush with Nick Rivera. McManus slid the puck to Rivera who angled his stick blade to send the puck over the right shoulder of Lincoln Stars goaltender Peyton Jones. The goal was Rivera's 14th of the season with the only assist to McManus who tallied his 12th assist and 22nd point.
In the third period, Ludvig Hoff halted the Lancers comeback chances with his 14th of the season. Hoff took the puck at the hash marks in front of the crease and sent the puck over the left shoulder of Kris Oldham for the 3-1 lead with only 2:50 left in the game. Hoff's goal had assists from Grant Jozefek and Patrick Polino.
Kris Oldham picked up the loss after stopping 19 of 22 shots.
