Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored late in the third period to earn one point against the Des Moines Buccaneers, before falling in a shootout 4-3. The Lumberjacks fall to (14-15-4) on the season, and (7-4) in overtime.
Muskegon jumped on the Buccaneers early in the first period. Rem Pitlick scored two goals on his second shift of the night. Three and a half minutes into the first period, Pitlick received a pass from Matej Paulovic and Collin Adams, and fired it into the back of the net, to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Thirty seconds later, Pitlick added another goal, after passes from Adams and Paulovic set him up, for a Muskegon 2-0 lead.
The Buccaneers started to control most of the action midway through the first period, and broke through with less than one minute to go in the first period. After a Lumberjacks turnover, Georgy Gorodetsky moved the puck to Zach Jordan in the high slot, and he fired home a wrist shot, to make the game 2-1 after one period of play.
Des Moines continued to control play in the second period, and midway through the frame, Jordan added his second goal of the night. Nick Wolff sent Jordan in on a second shorthanded breakaway to level the game 2-2. The Buccaneers looked poised for another late period goal, but Joey Daccord made beautiful pad save on David Keefer, to keep the game tied after forty minutes of hockey.
The Buccaneers took the lead midway through the third period, when an Alec Rauhauser pass deflected off of a stick in the slot, and hopped past Daccord, to give Des Moines the 3-2 edge.
Muskegon responded with less than four minutes to go in the game. Trevor Hamilton blasted home a rebound to send the game to overtime. Chris Klack and Max Humitz notched the assist on the goal.
After an exciting seven minutes of overtime remained scoreless, the Lumberjacks went into their fifth shootout of the season. However, it was the Buccaneers who picked up the victory, and improved to (3-0) in the shootout, after scoring in the fifth round, to defeat the Lumberjacks 4-3.
Pitlick scored two goals and Daccord made 45 saves to help the Lumberjacks earn one point in Des Moines.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (14-15-4) will look to rebound next Friday, when they travel to Nebraska, to take on the Lincoln Stars (20-17-1) at 8:15 p.m. The next Muskegon Lumberjacks home game is February 5th against the Bloomington Thunder.
