
Peterson Pitches Ponies to Series-Opening Win over Goats

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 4-2 in the opener of their four-game series Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.
LHP David Peterson threw 6.2 innings in which he allowed just one unearned run on three hits. He registered a season-high 10 strikeouts and at one point retired 16 consecutive batters.
After the Yard Goats (35-34, 72-64) scored one run in the first, the Rumble Ponies (30-42, 65-72) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Jeremy Vasquez led the inning off with a single and came around to score from first on a Dustin Houle RBI double.
The score remained even at one until the bottom of the seventh. Cody Bohanek and Edgardo Fermin each singled. Later in the inning, Andres Gimenez drilled a two-out RBI single into right field to give the Ponies the lead. Fermin then came home on a double steal to make it 3-1.
The Yard Goats pulled back within one on a pinch-hit RBI single by Scott Burcham in the top of the eighth. The Ponies tacked on an insurance run in their half of the inning. With two on and two out, Houle smacked an RBI single to second. He finished the night 3-4 with two RBI.
Stephen Villines (2-1) earned the win as he pitched 1.1 innings of relief. Jordan Foley (4-5) suffered the loss and allowed three runs on four hits in two innings of relief. Adonis Uceta pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his seventh save.

POSTGAME NOTES: Peterson's 10 strikeouts also match a career-high... Uceta has pitched 12 straight scoreless outings with the last run he gave up coming on July 15... Gimenez finished the night 3-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
