Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Penguins broke out of their early season scoring slump over the weekend, combining for 10 goals in a pair of wins over the Binghamton Senators and Syracuse Crunch.
Six different Penguins netted goals in Friday night's win in Binghamton. Chris Conner, Nick Johnson and Ryan Bayda all tallied within the first eight minutes of the team's first road game of the year, and Aaron Boogaard, Konstantin Pushkarev and Luca Caputi closed out the scoring. John Curry made 38 saves in the contest.
The excitement continued on Saturday, as the home club posted a 4-3, come-from-behind shootout win against the Crunch. Tim Wallace and Bayda gave the Pens 1-0 and 2-1 leads, only to see Syracuse go ahead with a pair of third period goals less than three minutes apart.
But Bayda didn't let the Pens wallow, netting his third goal in two games just 30 seconds after the Crunch took the lead to force overtime.
A relatively uneventful OT gave way to an exciting shootout session, which saw Mark Letestu and Wyatt Smith beat netminder Dan LaCosta, while Curry stopped all four shots he faced.
With the wins, the Penguins raised their record to 3-2-0-0 on the season, and moved into fourth place in the East Division standings. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns to action this Friday night when they host the Hershey Bears at 7:05pm. That will be the final home contest until November 8, when the Norfolk Admirals sail into town.
