LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Springfield (10/16): The Springfield Falcons scored three goals in 57-seconds to skate past the Manchester Monarchs, 4-1, at the MassMutual Center on Friday night. Center Oscar Moller scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Springfield's left wing Charles Linglet, right wing Colton Fretter and center Geoff Paukovich each scored in less than one minute and right wing Colin McDonald tallied into the open net for the Falcons victory. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (3-1-0) took his first loss of the season stopping 29 shots. Falcons netminder Devan Dubnyk (2-3-0) earned the victory with 27 saves on 28 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Springfield was also 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
Vs. Portland (10/17): Goaltender Jonathan Bernier denied the Portland Pirates on every shot as the Manchester Monarchs picked up their fourth win of the season, 4-0, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs collected over 8,000 boxes of macaroni and cheese for the New Hampshire Food Bank as fans joined in by shaking and donating their boxes for the Max & Cheese Food Drive. Left wing Bud Holloway tallied twice and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov and right wing Scott Parse each scored their first goals of the season for the Monarchs. Bernier (4-1-0) picked up the win by stopping all 29 shots he faced from the opposition. Pirates netminder Philippe Lamoureaux (0-1-0) took his first loss of the season with 23 saves. Manchester went 1-for-2 on the power play. Portland was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
Vs. Springfield (10/18): The Manchester Monarchs power play lit the lamp four times to top the Springfield Falcons, 6-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Center Corey Elkins, center Juraj Mikus, left wing Bud Holloway, center Andrei Loktionov, right wing Scott Parse and left wing David Meckler found the back of the net for the Monarchs. Left wing Chris Minard scored the lone goal for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (1-1-0) picked up his first win of the season with 21 saves. Falcons netminder Aaron Sorochan (0-1-0) took his first loss of the season with 30 saves on 36 shots. Manchester went 4-for-6 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
NEWS & NOTES
Manchester has moved above the .500 mark in their Home Openers at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs opened the 2009-10 season on home ice on Saturday, October 17 with a 4-0 shutout of the Portland Pirates to bring their record in Home Openers to 5-4.

With two wins over the weekend, Manchester (5-2-0-0) moved into first place in the Atlantic Division with 10 points. Overall in the AHL, the Monarchs are tied with the Manitoba Moose (5-3-0-0, 10 points) for second place. The San Antonio Rampage (6-1-1-0) is the front runners in the league with 13 points.
Manchester scored four power play goals in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Springfield Falcons. The Monarchs all-time record for power play goals in one game is six when Manchester beat Springfield 7-0 on April 13, 2007. The last time they scored four power play goals in one game was in their 7-3 win over the Lowell Devils on April 4, 2008.
The Monarchs shutout their opponent on Saturday night with a 4-0 blanking of the Pirates for their first shutout of the 2009-10 season. This was the 66th shutout in Manchester's nine year history.
Right wing Scott Parse continues to lead the Monarchs in assists and scoring with nine helpers and 11 points.
Parse's nine assists are tied for first overall in the AHL for assist with Providence's defenseman Andy Wozniewski.
Parse tallied his first goal of the season in Saturday's 4-0 win over Portland. He added his second tally on Sunday in the Monarchs 6-1 win over Springfield.
Parse is currently on a three-game assist and point streak with four assists and six points in the three games this last weekend.
Parse is also tied with center Andrei Loktionov (4-4=8) for the lead in the plus/minus category for the Monarchs and the AHL; they both have a plus-8 on the season.
Loktionov picked up two assists in Saturday's victory to move into sole possession of second place on the Monarchs team in points. He also added a goal and an assist in Sunday's game for a total of eight points (4-4=8) on the season. His eight points are also tied for the lead among AHL rookies.
Loktionov leads the Monarchs in goals scored with four tallies on the year.
The Russian rookie is on a two-game assist and point streak with three assists and four points in his last two games.
The Monarchs third leading scorer, center Oscar Moller, was recall by the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, October 17 as several of their players are suffering from the flu.
Moller's two game-winning goals prior to his call-up are tied with seven other players for the league's lead.
Moller was on a two-game goal scoring streak when he was recalled by the Kings Saturday morning.
Right wing Brandon Segal's three assists in Sunday's game moved him into a tie with Moller for third place on the Monarchs with five points. He has two goals and three assists in seven games.
Right wing Brandon Segal has scored the first goal of the game twice this season, the 6-3 opening win in Albany on October 3 and Sunday's 2-1 win over Hershey. His two first goals of the game are tied with seven players for second place in the AHL.
Left wing Bud Holloway (3-1=4) collected his first multi-goal game on Saturday against the Pirates. Holloway tallied two goals and added an assist for three points on the night. He also picked up another goal in Sunday's 6-1 win over Falcons to move him into a tie with defenseman Drew Bagnall (1-3=4) for fifth place on the Monarchs squad with four points each.
Bagnall ended his scoreless streak of 102 games with a goal on Friday, October 9 in the Monarchs 2-1 win over the Norfolk Admirals. His last and only other goal in a Monarchs uniform came on February 1, 2008 against Portland and it was scored shorthanded and into an empty net.
Rookie center Corey Elkins scored his first professional goal on Sunday against the Falcons.
Center Juraj Mikus scored his first goal of the season on his first shot during his first shift in his first game of the season on Sunday.
Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov tallied his first goal of the season on Saturday in the Monarchs Home Opener.
Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has a record of 4-1-0 in his first five games of the season. His four wins are tied with three players for first in the AHL.
Bernier is ranked fifth in the league with a 1.60 goals-against-average and is ranked fifth with a .955 save percentage.

Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament Postponed - Due to inclement weather, the Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament was postponed to Tuesday, October 20, 2009. You can still join the 2009-10 Monarchs players and personnel at the Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament at Candia Woods Golf Links. The tournament benefits the Monarchs Care Foundation and gives fans the opportunity to meet the team. Each foursome will be paired with a member of the 2009-10 Monarchs team.
