vs. Milwaukee (10/14): The Milwaukee Admirals used three power-play goals to upend the Peoria Rivermen 5-2 at Carver Arena on Wednesday night. Cal O'Reilly registered four assists to up his total to six in the two games against the Rivermen this season. vs. Hamilton (10/16): The Peoria Rivermen ended their season opening five-game home stand with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday night at Carver Arena. Mathieu Darche's second goal of the night came 16 seconds into overtime and ended the first of two meetings of the season between Peoria and Hamilton.
@ Rockford (10/17): The Rockford IceHogs erased a 3-0 deficit to force overtime and eventually a shootout and beat the Peoria Rivermen 4-3 on Saturday night in Peoria's first road game of the season. NEWS AND NOTES
As even as even can be.The Rivermen so far this year have posted a 2-2-1-1 record. They are 1-1 in overtime, 1-1 in shootouts, 1-0-1 against Rockford, and 1-1-0 vs. Milwaukee. They are 1-1-1-1 when scoring first in games, 1-0-0-1 when leading after two periods, 1-0-1 when tied after the first and the second periods, and 1-1-0 when trailing after the first.
Working Overtime. An AHL-high four of the first six games of the season for Peoria have been decided in overtime or a shootout. Last year, Peoria went past regulation a total of 15 times and despite having two of their first three games go past regulation, they did not play their fourth overtime game until Dec. 6. They were 3-2 in overtime and an additional 6-4 in shootouts.
Extra Bacon. When Peoria and Rockford get together overtime has come to be expected. Saturday was the fifth consecutive meeting that was pushed passed 60 minutes and nine of their all-time meetings have been decided in overtime or a shootout. Peoria is 2-1 in OT and 3-3 in shootouts against Rockford.
Quiet, Quiet West. The Rivermen are averaging just 26.33 shots per game which ranks them 26th among the 29 teams in the AHL. With the exception of Rockford, the rest of the West Division all rank in the lower half of the shot category.
Ask questions later.Yan Stastny is responsible for 13 percent of the 158 shots taken by the Rivermen. His 20 shots lead the team while his five assists and seven points do as well.
Tough throughout.Through six games played, the Rivermen have had eight fights break out involving eight different players on their roster. Saturday's game in Rockford featured a season-high three tilts with Ryan Reaves, Danny Richmond and Chris Porter all dropped the gloves. Mitch Love, Anthony Peluso, Tyson Strachan, DJ King and Cam Paddock have all had their first bout of the season already.
Old Friends.Chris Porter took on Mike Brennan on Saturday in his first fight of the year. It was the seventh fight of his professional career and third time fighting Brennan. Last season he had four fights, three against Rockford, and two against Brennan.
