Pennington's bat leads Cats to 8-2 win over Tacoma

West Sacramento, Calif. - Cliff Pennington had three extra-base hits as the Sacramento River Cats snapped a three-game losing streak on Monday night, defeating the Tacoma Rainiers 8-2 at Raley Field. Pennington drove in two runs, starting with an RBI triple in the second inning. The Sacramento shortstop then doubled as part of a three-run fifth inning and tripled for the second time in the seventh inning, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Pennington also made an outstanding defensive play in the seventh inning when he slid into a backhand, popped up spinning towards second base to begin a double play. Santiago Casilla - on rehab assignment with the Oakland A's - started and threw 1.2 innings, allowing a run and striking out four. Casilla struck out the side swinging in the first inning. Lenny DiNardo backed up Casilla, earning the win in 5.1 innings, allowing one run and striking out four. Sacramento catcher Landon Powell had two doubles in the game. The River Cats will begin a fresh four-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies beginning Tuesday at Raley Field.
