Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Tommy Runnells thought the game was tied after Salt Lake's Brandon Wood crushed a one-out Steven Register offering to deep left field. Dee Brown may have thought the same thing as he started circling the bases.
But Chris Frey had just enough room to make the catch and double-off Brown at first base, securing a 4-2 victory for the Sky Sox in front of 6,596 fans at Security Service Field Tuesday.
The Sky Sox had the lead thanks to a seventh-inning double from Edwin Bellorin that scored Cory Sullivan. Bellorin came around to score when Wood overthrew first baseman Freddy Sandoval on Jon Herrera's single.
Cedrick Bowers (4-1) picked up his second straight victory over Salt Lake, pitching three shutout innings. The lefty recorded the win against Salt Lake on June 7 when he also pitched 3 shutout innings in relief of Franklin Morales.
Morales left a tied ballgame after pitching five innings of two-run baseball. The organization's top prospect struck out five and walked three.
The Sky Sox completed a trifecta, defeating Salt Lake starting pitcher Nick Adenhart (5-6) for the third time in three weeks. Adenhart pitched seven strong innings allowing four runs, three of them earned.
Troy Tulowitzki, playing the first Triple-A game of his rehab stint, instantly endeared himself to the Colorado Springs faithful with a run-scoring double in the first inning to tie the score at one. He came around to score two batters later on an Adenhart balk to give the Sky Sox a short-lived one-run lead.
Clint Barmes, also playing for the first time on a rehab stint, played five innings before being removed in favor of Herrera. The middle infielder went 1-for-2 with a walk.
The Sky Sox and Bees continue their four-game set tomorrow with a 7:05 scheduled start time at Security Service Field. Mark Redman (2-2, 6.03) will square off against Dustin Moseley (2-3, 5.75).
