The New Orleans Zephyrs used a seven-run fifth-inning to defeat the Iowa Cubs 11-3 Tuesday night at Principal Park.

The Zephyrs jumped on the board early when John Rodriguez hit a two-run double. Valentino Pascucci then scored on a wild pitch by Iowa starter Justin Berg and Jesus Feliciano drove in one more run to give New Orleans a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Andres Torres got Iowa on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning, to bring the score to 4-1.

A seven-run fifth-inning would give the Zephyrs even more breathing room. Raul Gonzalez opened the inning with a homer. A string of RBI singles by Rodriguez and Feliciano upped New Orleans' total to 7-1. The Zephyrs would score four more runs in the inning, two on Gonzalez's second hit of the inning, a double to centerfield.

The Cubs entered the sixth inning down 11-1, but rallied for two runs when Felix Pie doubled and scored on a Zephyr error. Koyie Hill drove in Ben Broussard for a score of 11-3.

Iowa's Berg was tagged with the loss while New Orleans' Nelson Figueroa earned the win.

The two teams meet tomorrow for game two beginning at 7:05 p.m.
