LAST WEEK'S RESULTS

Friday, February 22: Penguins 2, PHANTOMS 1

In front of a crowd of 19, 561 at Wells Fargo Center, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton mounted a third-period rally to defeat the Adirondack Phantoms, 2-1.

The Phantoms went ahead, 1-0, on Marcel Noebels' 5-on-3 power play goal at 9:59 of the first and that tally would stand until the 13:34 mark of the third period.

With 6:26 left in the third, Bobby Farnham evened the match with his second goal of the season and Brian Gibbons followed with the game-winner 1:47 later. Brad Thiessen made 27 saves in the win for WBS.

Saturday, February 23: PENGUINS 2, Whale 1 (OT)

Joe Morrow potted his third marker of the season with 53 seconds left in overtime to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 2-1 victory against the Connecticut Whale at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

After two periods without a goal, the Penguins went up by one on Chad Kolarik's power play goal at 4:16 of the third. Connecticut answered less than two minutes later during a two-man advantage as Brandon Segal converted to tie things up.

Trevor Smith gathered his second assist of the game on Morrow's overtime tally. Jeff Zatkoff stopped 26-of-27 for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Sunday, February 24: Penguins 2, SOUND TIGERS 1 (SO)

For the third straight game, the Penguins found themselves on the right side of a 2-1 score as they defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the shootout at Webster Bank Arena.

Bridgeport opened the scoring at 4:14 of the first on Aaron Ness' even-strength tally, but Tom Kostopoulos answered for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton four minutes into the second frame.

In the shootout, Chad Kolarik and Riley Holzapfel both converted past Sound Tigers goalie Cam Talbot, while Brad Thiessen stopped four out of five Bridgeport shooters. Thiessen also made 34 saves through overtime.

UPCOMING GAMES

Wednesday, February 27, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Admirals - 102.3 the Mountain

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will look to defeat Norfolk (23-25-2-2) at home for the first time this season during the Admirals' third visit of 2012-13 to Mohegan Sun Arena. Norfolk recently notched a 1-0 shutout win in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 15 to take a 3-2-0-0 lead in the season series. Goaltender Frederik Andersen has the highest active save percentage in the league at .931.

Friday, March 1, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Bears - MyNetworkTV, 102.3 the Mountain

The Penguins and Bears (25-21-3-5) face each other for the 11th time this season as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton looks to extend its three-game winning streak versus Hershey. The Bears have only lost twice in regulation in their last 12 games (5-2-1-4) and are three points behind the Penguins for third place in the East Division.

Saturday, March 2, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Devils - 102.3 the Mountain

This will be game three out of the four-game series between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Albany (22-19-1-9). The two teams last met on Dec. 12 in Atlantic City and it was Bobby Butler notching a hat trick in a 6-3 victory for the Devils. Albany has gone 2-9 in the shootout this season.

ICE CHIPS...

- This weekend marked the first time in team history that the Penguins won three games in a row by the same score with one win coming in regulation, overtime and the shootout.

- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is now 18-5-0-1 versus non-East Division opponents.

- Brad Thiessen has allowed only seven goals in his last nine wins and recorded four shutouts.

- Tom Kostopoulos scored his first goal of the season for the Penguins on Sunday at Bridgeport, setting a team record for span of time between goals. It was his first regular-season goal for the Penguins since scoring in a 2-1 win over Worcester on Nov. 2, 2003 - a span of nine years, three months and 23 days.
