Abbotsford Heat Announce Pink in the Rink
February 25, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat, in partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, are pleased to present the annual Pink in the Rink at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre (AESC) on Friday, March 1, 2013 sponsored by Champagne & Lace and Lee's Fine Jewelry. The Heat will play the Houston Aeros (AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild) in the first of a two-game series, with opening faceoff scheduled for 7:00 PM PST.
Through this promotional night, the Heat aim to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure in Abbotsford. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women, with one in nine women expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest single-day, volunteer-led national fundraising event in Canada in support of breast cancer.
Marie Lashley, Co-Run Director of the Run for the Cure - Abbotsford, remarked on the annual Pink in the Rink night: "The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is very excited to partner with the Abbotsford Heat for its annual Pink in the Rink fundraiser. This is an excellent opportunity to not only raise funds for breast cancer research but also to increase the awareness of breast health in the community."
Abbotsford Heat forward Ryan Howse nearly lost his aunt to breast cancer recently and commented on the annual game as well: "I've been through this a couple of times with my family members, my mom and my aunt. My aunt was only 35 years old and she meant the world to me and my little brother, but also hearing that my mom was going to make it and was clear of breast cancer was probably the best news of my life. So, Pink in the Rink may not be a big night for some people, but it means a lot to me and that's the night where I want to be in the line-up and give it my all."
Fans who wish to attend Pink in the Rink can purchase tickets online using the promo code PINK13 and 50% of the ticket price will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. Up to $20 per ticket will be donated to the cause. During the event, the Abbotsford Run for the Cure Committee will be selling hot dogs and pink chuck-a-pucks with all raised funds going back to the Foundation.
