Connecticut Whale News Release


The Whale (25-23-5-2, 57 pts.) were 0-2-1-0 in three games this past week. The Whale had a season-high five-game winning streak snapped Wednesday at home, in a 5-1 loss to St. John's. A Saturday-night trip to Wilkes-Barre produced a 2-1 overtime loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and the Whale lost 4-0 to the Eastern Conference-leading Syracuse Crunch Sunday in Syracuse. Andrew Yogan scored Connecticut's only goal in Wednesday's game, and Brandon Segal was the Whale goal-scorer Saturday.

This week:

The Whale begin the month of March with a pair of games against their Connecticut rivals the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Bridgeport visits the XL Center on Friday night for a 7:00 PM contest, and the Whale and Sound Tigers meet again Sunday afternoon at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport at 3:00.

Friday, March 1 vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- At this and all Whale Friday-night home games, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers until the end of the first intermission.

- The Sound Tigers are 22-23-3-4 on the season for 51 points, after going 0-4-1-1 in their last six games. Bridgeport is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, six points behind the Whale.

- The Whale are 2-4-1-0 thus far in the season series against Bridgeport, 1-2-1-0 at home. This is the Sound Tigers' last of five visits on the year to the XL Center.

- Goaltender Rick DiPietro, a veteran of 318 NHL games in his 13-year career, was assigned to Bridgeport Saturday by the parent New York Islanders.

- The Whale are 1-2-0-0 in three previous trips to Bridgeport this season, and suffered a 5-2 loss in their last visit there the night after Christmas.

- The Sound Tigers are four games over .500 on home ice this year, 12-8-2-3.

Scott Stajcer - reassigned by the New York Rangers to the Whale from Greenville (ECHL) February 21, and returned to Greenville February 25.

Steve Eminger - Recalled by the New York Rangers from a conditioning loan to the Whale February 22.

Christian Thomas - Recalled from the Whale by the New York Rangers February 22.

Whale Tales:

Whale fans can present their Whale ticket stub at the Russian Lady, which is located at 191 Ann Uccello Street, directly across from the XL Center, and not only skip the line at the door, but get in with no cover charge as well.

At every Sunday Whale home game this year, fans can take advantage of the Whale's "Click It or Ticket Sunday Family Value Packs", which include a ticket, a hot dog or a pizza slice and a soda, all for just $18. The next Sunday home outing at the XL Center is March 17, a 3:00 PM game vs. the Springfield Falcons.
