Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Brad Thiessen made 31 saves as his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (37-29-2-3) shut out the Norfolk Admirals (36-30-3-3) 3-0 and moved past them into third place in the East Division standings on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals and Penguins will look for revenge and to re-claim third place on Friday night at Scope in the rematch.
Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski and Penguins netminder Brad Thiessen were both perfect through two periods, turning aside 20 shots each.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton opened scoring midway through the final frame with a shorthanded goal. Chris Conner entered the attacking zone along the left wing, deked around a Tokarski poke-check attempt and slid a shot past the prone netminder at 9:56.
The visitors doubled their lead nearly six minutes later. Mark Letestu sent a shot from the slot that bounced off Tokarski into the crease. Nick Johnson found the rebound and sent it into the net at 15:46.
Former Admiral Ben Lovejoy closed out scoring with a power play tally at 17:49.
Dustin Tokarski (34 shots, 31 saves) took the loss. Brad Thiessen (31 shots, 31 saves) earned the shutout win.
Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-4.
The Admirals and Penguins will clash once again at Scope on Friday night before Norfolk concludes a five-game homestand with a tilt on Saturday against the Atlantic Division-leading Worcester Sharks. All games begin at 7:15 p.m.
