Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The B-Sens had a three game winning streak come to a close tonight against Toronto. A win would have extended their win streak to the longest of this season and earn an all important two points in the standings. Unfortunately the B-Sens allowed four power play goals, which helped lift the Marlies to a 5-2 victory.
Toronto got on the board first at 7:41 of the opening period. Greg Scott was able to put a loose puck to an open net as Senators goaltender, Chris Holt, was distracted by three other Toronto players. Kyle Calder and Josh Engel received credit for the helpers on the goal.
Just under three minutes later, Ryan Keller scored on the power play to tie things up 1-1. Josh Hennessy and Martin St. Pierre continue their hot streaks, picking up the assists.
The B-Sens took the lead 10:29 into the second with yet another on the power play. Yannick Tifu earned his first goal as a Senator to make the score 2-1. Condra shot the puck to the front of the net and Tifu was able to tap in the rebound. Brian Lee would also pick up an assist.
Toronto tied it up 2-2 with a goal from Ben Ondrus at 17:07 of the third as he shot a perfect wrister from the blue line over the shoulder of Holt. Juraj Mikus and Calder were credited with assists on the goal.
Nearly a minute later, with Toronto still on the power play, following a 5 minutes boarding major issued to Jonathan Cheechoo, the Marlies were able to take the lead following a scramble in front of Holt. The puck was brought out loose to the point, giving Tim Brent a clear shot. Engel earned his second assist of the night on the goal.
Toronto added another at 2:37 of the third as Calder earned his third point of the night, then an empty netter scored by Kyle Rogers in the final minute of play gave the Marlies their 5-2 final.
The B-Sens return to action Friday, March 26 as they travel to Rochester to face the Amerks at 7:05 p.m.
