Rivermen Stay in Hunt with 4-2 Win

PEORIA, Ill. (March 24, 2010) - The Peoria Rivermen closed the gap on the Milwaukee Admirals with a 4-2 win over the division-leading Chicago Wolves on Wednesday night at Carver Arena. They now sit seven points back of a potential playoff spot with nine games remaining in the regular season.

Ben Bishop collected his fourth straight win with a 24 save performance as the Rivermen finished their 10-game season series with a 3-6-1 record against the Wolves.

Peoria never trailed in the game as Pascal Pelletier opened the scoring just 3:57 into the first period. The Rivermen controlled the puck for a full two-minute power play and despite collecting six shots during the advantage came up empty. With the puck still inside the Wolves zone, Pelletier banged home a Jonas Junland rebound for his 16th of the season.

The Wolves battled back and tied the game with a power-play goal at 18:31. Spencer Machacek slid a rebound through Bishop's pads to record his 18th of the season and send the game to the first intermission tied 1-1.

Adam Cracknell gave the Rivermen back the lead 2:28 of the second frame. Chris Porter helped Cracknell finish off a two-on-one to put Peoria ahead for good. In the third, Lars Eller ripped one past Drew MacIntyre at 11:28 to extend the Rivermen lead to 3-1. Derek Armstrong picked up his second assist of the night on the play as Eller registered his 50th point of the season.

After Joey Crabb brought the Wolves back within one with 5 minutes remaining the Wolves had a six-on-four opportunity with the net empty. At 19:30, Nate Guenin cleared the puck from goal line to goal line and score his first goal since joining the Rivermen.

The Rivermen finished 0-for-3 on the power play while the Wolves were 1-for-6.
