LOWELL, Mass. - In a battle for third place in the Atlantic Division, the Manchester Monarchs would come out the victor with a 2-1 decision over the Lowell Devils on Wednesday at the Tsongas Center. The two points allowed the Monarchs to leap over the Devils from fourth in the standings.

Tied 1-1 in the second period, Manchester would take its first lead of the match during a 5-on-4 power play. Oscar Moller skated the puck down the far wall and feathered a pass across the crease that was tapped in by Dwight King at 8:21.

The Devils would draw first blood when Michael Swift collected a pass by Stephen Gionta from the far corner and flicked it into the net, 6:26 into the first period. With the goal, Swift become the Devils' third 20-goal scorer this season.

That would be the only tally allowed by Manchester goaltender Jonathan Bernier, who stopped 33 of the shots he faced on his way to his 27th victory of the year.

The Monarchs tied the contest three minutes later as Justin Azevedo picked off a pass at the redline and walked it into the Lowell zone before sending a slapshot past the blocker of Mike McKenna. Lowell's netminder suffered the loss despite making 29-of-31 saves in the contest.

The Lowell Devils take the ice again on Friday, Mar. 26 as they battle the Springfield Falcons at 7:00PM at the Tsongas Center. Tune into AM1510 or go online to AHLlive.com to catch all of the live Devils action. For more information, call (978) 458-PUCK or go to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
