
Penguins recall trio from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. â The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today recalled defensemen Randy Perry and Darcy Robinson and goaltender Dany Sabourin from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, and reassigned goaltender Andy Chiodo, defenseman Drew Fata and forward Cam Paddock to the Nailers.
Perry, 28, has recorded four assists and 12 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Nailers this season. Last season, he spent time with Bakersfield and Greensboro of the ECHL and Utah, Manchester and Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
The 6'1", 200-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta played in 35 combined games in the ECHL in 2003-04, recording 12 points (3+9) and 32 penalty minutes. In 27 games in the AHL with the Grizzlies, Monarchs and Sound Tigers, he posted seven points (1+6) and 14 penalty minutes. Perry also appeared in three games with the Sound Tigers during the 2004 Calder Cup Playoffs, recording one assist.
He has appeared in 37 career AHL games with Houston, Philadelphia, Utah, Manchester and Bridgeport, recording nine points (1+8) and 14 penalty minutes.
Perry was signed by the Penguins to a two-way AHL contract on October 24, 2004.
Robinson, 23, has appeared in five games with the Penguins this season, going scoreless with 31 penalty minutes. He was assigned to Wheeling on November 24 and appeared in three games with the Nailers, going scoreless with two penalty minutes.
The 6'3", 215-pound native of Kamloops, British Columbia has appeared in 150 career games with the Penguins, recording 21 points (3+18) and 219 penalty minutes. In 14 career games with Wheeling, he has recorded six points (2+4) and 45 penalty minutes.
Robinson was drafted by the Penguins in the eighth round (233rd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Sabourin, 24, has appeared in 13 games with the Nailers this season, posting a 10-2 record with a 1.28 goals against average and three shutouts. He is ranked among ECHL goaltenders in wins (tied for first), shutouts (tied for first), save percentage (second with a .956 save percentage), saves (tied for second with 345) and minutes played (third with 750).
The 6'2", 182-pound native of Val-d'Or, Quebec split last season between Lowell (AHL), Calgary (NHL) and Las Vegas (ECHL). In 14 games with the Lock Monsters, he had a record of 5-7-2 and a 2.85 goals against average. In four games with the Flames, Sabourin posted a record of 0-3 with a 3.55 goals against average. He was recalled from Lowell on October 19 and made his NHL debut against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 29. Sabourin was reassigned to Las Vegas on February 26 and posted a record of 6-3-1 and a 2.35 goals against average in 10 games with the Wranglers.
In 56 career games in the AHL with Saint John and Lowell, he has a record of 21-24-6 with a 2.71 goals against average and four shutouts.
Sabourin was selected by Calgary in the fifth round (108th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by the Penguins to an American Hockey League contract on September 25, 2004.
Chiodo, 21, has posted a 2-5-1 record with a 3.29 goals against average and one shutout in nine games with the Penguins this season.
The 5'11", 194-pound native of Toronto, Ontario spent time last season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Wheeling and Pittsburgh.
In 44 games with the AHL Penguins, he posted a record of 18-19-2, with a 2.40 goals against average and four shutouts during his rookie season. Chiodo posted a 9-7 record with three shutouts and a .916 save percentage in 18 post-season games. He ranked among AHL goaltenders in shutouts (tied for first), minutes played (second with 1048), wins (third), saves (third with 412) and goals against average (eleventh) during the 2004 Calder Cup Playoffs.
In two games with the Nailers, he had a record of 0-2 with a 6.26 goals against average. Chiodo also appeared in eight games with the NHL Penguins in 2003-04, posting a 3-4-1 record with a 3.46 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.
He was selected by Pittsburgh in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Fata, 22, has appeared in 13 games with the Penguins this season, going scoreless with 34 penalty minutes.
The 6'1", 209-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario split last season between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling. He appeared in 23 games with the Penguins, recording three points (1+2) and 26 penalty minutes. In 28 games with the Nailers, he posted 16 points (6+10) and 61 penalty minutes.
Fata was selected by the Penguins in the third round (86th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft.
Paddock, 21, has no points and four penalty minutes in 10 games with the Penguins this season. He was assigned to Wheeling on Nov. 12 and appeared in four games with the Nailers, recording two goals and 13 penalty minutes. Paddock was recalled from Wheeling on Nov. 20.
The 6'1", 196-pound native of North Vancouver, B.C. was selected drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
The Penguins (9-5-4-2, 24 points; T-3RD, East Division) continue their four-game road trip tomorrow night when they visit the first-place Philadelphia Phantoms (17-3-0-0, 34 points; 1ST-Place, East Division) at 7:05 p.m. at the Wachovia Spectrum.
