Monarchs Injury Update
November 30, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, will be without the services of left wing Ryan Flinn and right wing Scott Barney for the next several weeks, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced on Tuesday. Both forwards are recovering from recent surgeries. Flinn, 24, is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks of action while recovering from surgery to repair an infected Achilles tendon. Dr. James Vailis, the Monarchs Medical Director and Orthopedist, performed the successful operation on Saturday, November 27 at The Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
Flinn, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, has two points (1-1=2) and 48 penalty minutes in nine games with the Monarch this season. Originally selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth-round (143rd overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Flinn has 15 points (6-9=15) and 420 penalty minutes in 132 career American Hockey League games (all with the Monarchs).
Barney, 25, is expected to miss 8-10 weeks of play after undergoing surgery to repair an external oblique muscle on Thursday, November 18. Dr. David Mulder, Head Physician and Chief Surgeon for the Montreal Canadiens, performed the successful surgery at Montreal General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec.
Barney, a 6-foot-4, 208-pound native of Oshawa, Ontario, has yet to appear in a Monarchs game this season. Originally selected by the Kings in the second-round (29th overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Barney has 52 points (33-19=52) and 89 penalty minutes in 106 career AHL games.
Right wing Greg Hogeboom (probable for this weekend) and defenseman Doug Nolan (questionable for this weekend) also continue to recover from recent injuries. Hogeboom, a 23-year-old rookie from Etobicoke, Ontario, is listed as day-to-day with a shoulder separation. Nolan, a 28-year-old native of Quincy, Massachusetts, is listed as week-to-week with a knee injury.
The Monarchs return to action when they meet the Providence Bruins on Friday, December 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. After that, they welcome the Bruins to the Verizon Wireless Arena for a 7:35 p.m. contest on Saturday, December 4.
