Penguins recall left win Matt Murley from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled left wing Matt Murley from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The announcement was made today by Penguins' General Manager Craig Patrick. In addition, Patrick also announced that right wing Eric Meloche has been reassigned to the AHL Penguins.

Murley, 23, has played in 46 games this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording 30 points (10+20) and 44 penalty minutes with a plus-4 rating. He leads the team in assists, ranks third in scoring, third with five power-play goals and is tied for third in goals.

Murley has also appeared in 10 games this season with Pittsburgh, scoring one goal and recording 12 penalty minutes.

The 6'2", 204-pound native of Troy, New York has recorded 88 points (31+57)and 89 penalty minutes in 119 career games with the AHL Penguins.

He was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (51st overall) of the

1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Meloche, 27, has appeared in 25 games this season with Pittsburgh, recording 10 points (3+7) and 20 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 31 games this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording 23 points (10+13) and 27 penalty minutes.

The 5'10", 197-pound native of Montreal, Quebec has recorded 119 points (55+64) and 283 penalty minutes in 224 career games with the AHL Penguins.

Meloche was drafted by the Penguins in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 1996 Entry Draft.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will practice tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Ice Box Skating Complex in Pittston. The Penguins' next game is on Wednesday (February 25), when they visit the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 p.m. at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Penguins, sixth in the East Division with a 22-21-7-5 record (56 points), are unbeaten in their last four games (2-0-2-0). The Penguins defeated the Syracuse Crunch, 2-1, in overtime last night at the War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse, N.Y. Guillaume Lefebvre scored both goals and rookie goaltender Nick Boucher made 30 saves to record his first AHL win in his first start.
