Heins Adds Flavor to Thrashers

The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled defenseman Shawn Heins from the Chicago Wolves.

This is the second trip to Atlanta for the 30-year-old blueliner, who tallied one assist and four penalty minutes in five games with the Thrashers after being recalled on Nov. 29.

Heins ranks second among Wolves defensemen with seven goals and 16 assists and third among team blueliners with 23 points in 47 games this season. The Eganville, Ontario, native has posted five points (2G, 3A) in his last eight games.

Heins split last season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks, recording one goal, two assists and 42 penalty minutes in 47 games. Overall, Heins has posted four goals; nine assists; 13 points; and 142 penalty minutes in 113 career National Hockey League games with the Sharks (1998-2003); Penguins (2002-03); and Thrashers (2003-04).

Originally signed by San Jose on Jan. 5, 1997, the 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound defenseman has played parts of four seasons in the AHL, registering 20 goals; 70 assists; 90 points; and 431 penalty minutes in 135 games.
