Penguins Recall Goaltender Andy Chiodo from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Andy Chiodo (pronounced kee OH doh) from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The announcement was made today by Penguins' General Manager Craig Patrick. In addition, Patrick also announced that goaltender Sebastien Caron has been reassigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Chiodo, 20, has played in 31 games with the AHL Penguins, posting a 12-13-2 record with a 2.35 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and two shutouts. He leads all Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltenders in wins and games played.

Chiodo also played two games in Wheeling (ECHL) this season, going 0-2 with a 6.26 goals against average.

The 5'11", 192-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was drafted by the Penguins in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft.

Chiodo will join the team in New York tonight where the Penguins (11-39-5-4, 31 points; 5TH -Place, Atlantic Division) will play the New York Islanders (27-21-8-2, 64 points; 3RD-Place, Atlantic Division) tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Nassau Coliseum.

Caron, 23, has appeared in 32 games this season with the Penguins, posting a 5-22-3 record with a 3.92 goals against average, a .879 save percentage and one shutout.

The 6'0", 170-pound native of Amqui, Quebec has a record of 1-0-1, with a 1.44 goals against average and a .946 save percentage in two games this season with the AHL Penguins. He was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on January 19 and was recalled by Pittsburgh on Jan. 30.

Caron has a 39-50-13 record and 3.20 goals against average in 105 career games with the AHL Penguins. He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (86th overall) of the 1999 Entry Draft.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (20-21-6-5, 51 points; 6TH -Place, East Division) will travel to Philadelphia tomorrow night to play the Philadelphia Phantoms (30-17-5-1, 66 points; 2ND -Place, East Division) at 7 p.m. at the Wachovia Spectrum. The game is the first of seven consecutive road games for the Penguins.
