Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jordan Weal collected two goals and two assists for his third four-point game of the season and the Manchester Monarchs put an end to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' 10-game point streak with a 6-3 win on Friday at Verizon Wireless Arena.

Weal got the scoring started at 6:44 of the opening frame, intercepting a pass in front of the Penguins crease and firing a quick snapshot to the top of the net.

Less than four minutes later, the Monarchs made it a two-goal lead when Zach O'Brien dug a puck out of a pile along the right circle and found Brian O'Neill all alone on the far post for a one-timer past Penguins goaltender Jeff Zatkoff.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was able to stem the tide after heading to its first man-advantage of the contest. Defenseman Scott Harrington jumped up to a deflected pass in the high slot and rifled his first of the season past the glove of Manchester goalie Jean-Francois Berube at 13:27 of the first.

Colin Miller helped Manchester respond with 3:29 left until the intermission with his own power play tally that put Manchester back up by two, 3-1.

After back-to-back delay of game penalties on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the opening four minutes of the second, Manchester would enjoy extended time on a 5-on-3 power play. It looked as though the Penguins would come out of the two-man advantage and ensuing 5-on-4 unscathed, but with one second left on the power play, Vincent LoVerde's wrist shot from the between the circles flew through a screen and inside the far post.

The Penguins were also able to strike on the power play for a second time to cut the Monarchs cushion back down to two with 1:21 remaining in the period. Working down the right side of the Manchester zone, Tom Kuhnhackl waited for the Monarchs defense to commit before sending a point pass to Taylor Chorney, who walked into a slap shot that found the top left corner of the net.

With just 20.9 seconds left in the same period, Justin Auger made it a 5-2 margin for Manchester, tipping in a point shot from Andrew Bodnarchuk after a clean offensive zone faceoff win by Nic Dowd.

Penguins forward Carter Rowney tied an AHL career high for points in a game, registering his third assist on Dominik Uher's goal two minutes into the third. At 6:28 of the frame, Weal completed the scoring with his second goal of the match.

Zatkoff suffered his first regulation loss in his last six starts with 22 saves on 28 shots. Berube registered his 26th win of the season, stopping 15-of-18.
