Cleveland Monsters News Release
Ben Street notched the game-winning goal at 4:28 of overtime for the Lake Erie Monsters (25-23-5-3), who topped the Chicago Wolves (28-21-6-1) by a 4-3 score before a Quicken Loans Arena crowd of 10,871 Friday night. Street's goal capped off a three point night, as he also chipped in a pair of assists. Tomas Vincour had two goals and an assist, while Sami Aittokallio stopped 41 Chicago shots for the win in net. The Monsters and Wolves meet again Sunday at The Q, with the game starting at 3:00 p.m.
Chicago's Adam Burish tipped in a Brendan Bell point shot for a power play goal at 10:10 of the first period, giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead. At 14:38, the Monsters countered when Tomas Vincour ripped a shot from the high slot that sailed past Wolves goalie Jordan Binnington for Vincour's second goal of the season. Michael Schumacher and Freddie Hamilton assisted on the goal, with Hamilton's assist marking his first point in a Monsters uniform.
Andrew Agozzino streaked up the left side and beat Binnington on a wrist shot from the left circle 1:27 into the second period, giving the Monsters a 2-1 lead. The goal was Agozzino's team-leading 16th of the season, assisted by Stefan Elliott and Ben Street.
Brendan Bell's goal for Chicago at 12:47 of the third period triggered a see-saw third period, as Bell tied the game for the Wolves before the Monsters countered to regain a one-goal lead again. At 17:06, Andrew Agozzino centered a pass to Vincour in the slot, and Vincour sent a one-timer immediately past Binnington to give the Monsters their second lead of the game at 3-2. The power play goal was Vincour's third goal of the season and second of the game, and was also assisted by Street.
Chicago tied the game at 19:08 of the third period with their goaltender pulled in favor of an extra attacker. Brent Regner's shot from the right point was tipped in front by Yanick Veilleux, and the puck sailed over the shoulder of Monsters goalie Sami Aittokallio making the score 3-3.
Chicago's Colin Fraser was whistled for a high-sticking penalty at 3:55 of overtime, and the Monsters cashed in for the game-winning goal. Ben Street took a puck in the right circle and sent it into a largely open net before Binnington could react and move to his left. Agozzino and Vincour assisted on the goal, which was Street's fifth of the season.
Aittokallio stopped 41 of 44 shots in the win; he is 6-4-1. Binnington is 19-12-4 with the overtime loss; he stopped 30 of 34 shots.
The Monsters host Chicago Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Sunday's game airs live on 99X (FM 99.1).
