Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - It was a night of firsts as two different Admirals scored their first goal of the season, but Binghamton emerged as the winner again Saturday night in overtime, 3-2, at Scope Arena.

It took less than four minutes to light the scoreboard. Shane Prince carried a turnover into the left circle and sent a pass across the slot to Carter Camper at the hash marks. Norfolk goaltender Jason LaBarbera couldn't slide over in time, and Camper elevated the puck into the open net. The tally at 3:37 gave Binghamton a 1-0 lead.

The Senators pushed their advantage to 2-0 10 minutes later. With netminder Scott Greenham on the bench for an extra attacker due to a delayed penalty, Binghamton controlled possession in the Norfolk half. Ryan Dzingel snatched the puck at center and gave it to Guillaume Lepine at the blue line. Lepine in turn sent it cross-ice to Chris Wideman above the right circle who hesitated before blasting one on net that blew by a screened LaBarbera at 13:51.

After going 0-for-8 on the power play Wednesday night, the Admirals converted on their second opportunity this evening, 4:47 into the second period. Playing the point, Louis Leblanc snapped the puck to Sgarbossa stationed just above the goal line. Spotting an open lane, Sgarbossa slid a tape-to-tape pass to Kevin Gagne at the opposite side. Gagne's one-timer glanced off Greenham's left arm and into side netting for his first goal of the year. The Senators' lead stood at 2-1 going to the third.

Much of the final frame belonged to the Admirals, and at 10:02, they were rewarded. On a rush into the Senators' zone, Stefan Noesen lobbed the puck on net, which was turned aside and pushed behind the cage. From within the scrum, Max Friberg snuck out and handed off to Sgarbossa in the left corner. Sgarbossa rotated to the top of the circle and fired an attempt off bodies in front and into the twine to tie the game at 2-2. Overtime ensued.

Past the halfway mark of the extra session, Prince saucered a pass to Camper, who waited at the Admirals' blue line for his line mates before entering the zone. Camper advanced before wristing a shot on goal, beating LaBarbera high glove-side. The game-winning marker at 5:00 sealed the two-game sweep for Binghamton, 3-2.

Greenham stopped 49 of the 51 shots he faced, while LaBarbera made 36 saves on 39 attempts. The Senators were 0-for-3 on their power play, and the Admirals went 1-for-6 while a man up.

Norfolk leaves Scope to go on a season-long seven-game road trip, which begins Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against the Charlotte Checkers.

Three Stars:

1) BNG #11 Carter Camper (GWG)

2) BNG #35 Scott Greenham (49 saves)

3) NOR #18 Mike Sgarbossa (1 G, 1 A)
