OKC Drops Second Straight, 5-1 to IceHogs

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Stephen Johns scored a goal and had two assists for the Rockford IceHogs, who handed the Oklahoma City Barons their second straight multi-goal loss by the score of 5-1 Friday night at BMO Harris Bank Center. Rockford goalie Michael Leighton made 29 saves in the IceHogs' win.

Johns scored the game's decisive goal in the first period and assisted on Rockford's final two goals in the third period, leading all skaters with three points.

Rockford's Peter Regin scored the game's first goal with the IceHogs on the power play due to a slashing penalty assessed to the Barons' Travis Ewanyk at 5:44 of the first perod. With the man advantage, Ryan Hartman skidded a pass across the crease to the right circle, where Regin ripped a shot over the glove of Oklahoma City goalie Laurent Brossoit for 1-0 IceHogs lead at 7:35.

After Johns carried the puck to the top of the right circle and fired a shot past Brossoit to give the IceHogs a 2-0 lead at 11:32 of the first, Oklahoma City's Jason Williams cut the Rockford lead to 2-1 at 13:05 of the frame with the Barons on the power play.

Goals by the IceHogs' Cody Bass and Abbott at 3:31 and 6:00 respectively of the second period extended Rockford's lead to 4-1, with Garret Ross adding a fifth goal for the IceHogs at 14:30 of the third.

With seven goals given up in the March 4 loss to Grand Rapids and another five Friday night, the Barons have been outscored 12-2 on their current three-game road trip.

The final game of the Barons trip is a 4 p.m. start Sunday, March 8, against the Milwaukee Admirals at BMO Harris Bradley Center.
