Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa) - The Pawtucket Red Sox (48-59) got the best of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (51-55) on Tuesday morning as they won 7-3. Pawtucket now leads the season series 10-6.
Deivy Grullon put Lehigh Valley on scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning. He hit an RBI single off Brian Johnson to give the Pigs a 1-0 lead. Pawtucket answered with three runs off Damon Jones in the top of the third inning as Rusney Castillo hit a three-run home run.
Rob Brantly homered off Kyle Hart (7-4) in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the PawSox lead to 3-2. Lehigh Valley tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning as Mitch Walding scored on a sacrifice fly by Phil Gosselin.
Pawtucket jumped to a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning against Connor Brogdon (1-1) as Oscar Hernandez hit a two-run home run. The lead extended to 7-3 in the top of the ninth inning against JD Hammer as Josh Ockimey hit a two-run home run.
The Pigs threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning but failed to score a run as Bobby Poyner closed out the game for Pawtucket.
The IronPigs have two final games remaining in the homestand. They welcome in the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
