Louisville Bats News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Louisville Bats (44-64) were defeated by the Toledo Mud Hens (48-60) on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field by a 3-2 score. The loss snapped the Bats' season-high win streak of four games.

After the clubs combined for 17 runs in Monday night's opener, a 13-4 Bats victory, the offenses were quiet in the early going tonight, with a scoreless game headed into the bottom of the fourth inning. Toledo's Ronny Rodriguez got the scoring going with a two-run home run off Bats starter Tejay Antone (2-6, 5.40).

Antone was stuck with his fifth consecutive loss despite pitching well enough to record a quality start, going 6.0 innings and allowing three earned runs on 12 hits and the homer, walking one and striking out four on 98 pitches and 62 strikes. Antone worked around the hits by inducing three double plays and picking off Danny Woodrow trying to steal second base.

Down 3-0 after Antone's departure, the Bats would not get a run off Toledo starting pitcher, the Major League rehabber Spencer Turnbull. The right-hander struck out seven Bats in 3.2 innings of work, with Daniel Stumpf (1-1, 2.45) getting the win in relief with 2.1 scoreless innings.

Louisville scored its two runs in the top of the seventh, when shortstop Blake Trahan lifted a two-run homer off Bryan Garcia to make it a one-run game, 3-2. Trahan's homer was his second in as many games, and his fifth of July.

The Bats threatened in the eighth, getting two baserunners, and also got the leadoff man aboard in the ninth after Alex Blandino singled to open the frame, but could not tie the game as Louisville failed to sweep its second series in a row.

Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers, will welcome the Bats for a two-game series starting tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. After that, Louisville heads home for a three-game weekend series against the Mud Hens.
