Moosic, PA - Another late Syracuse Mets rally was overshadowed by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as the Mets lost to the RailRiders, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon at PNC Field.
Syracuse (53-55) trailed, 3-1, entering the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh, Travis Taijeron was hit by a pitch, Rymer Liriano walked, and Braxton Lee singled on a bunt to load the bases. Colton Plaia then grounded into a double play, but Taijeron scored from third on the play to trim the deficit to one, 3-2.
The Mets then tied the game in the top of the eighth. With two outs, Dilson Herrera doubled. Arismendy Alcantara then reached on an error that put runners at first and third base. Taijeron followed with a single to left field that brought home Herrera, knotting the game up, 3-3.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (62-46) scored the game's decisive runs in the bottom of the eighth. Gosuke Katoh worked a leadoff walk, and Trey Amburgey followed with a two-run home run to left field to give the RailRiders a 5-3 advantage. Francisco Arcia followed with a line-drive home run over the right-field wall to make it a 6-3 ballgame.
The RailRiders scored first in this game in the first inning. With runners at first and third and one out, Clint Frazier struck out, but on the third strike, Breyvic Valera stole second base, and on a throw to second base, Thairo Estrada stole home from third for a 1-0 lead.
Syracuse tied the game in the top of the fourth. With one out and runners at second and third, Taijeron hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Tejada from third and tying the score, 1-1.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre immediately responded in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, and a runner at first, Mike Ford hit a two-run homer to center field, pushing the RailRiders back in front, 3-1.
The Mets return home and start a two-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
