Today's Game

This afternoon, the Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of their two-game set after the Herd won the first by just one run. Buffalo will then head to Lehigh Valley to square off against the IronPigs for two games. The Herd returns home following the brief roadtrip to face the Syracuse Mets for three games.

Yesterday's Game: BUF 6, ROC 5

The Bisons went back and forth with the Red Wings but managed to hold them off thanks to three-run fifth and eighth innings to get the win. Richard Urena and Patrick Kivlehan shined for Buffalo as each of them had two RBIs on the game. Jaylin Davis tried to help Rochester mount a ninth inning comback with a two-run homer but it wasn't enough to overcome a three error game by the Wings.

Rochester Red Wings (4-3)

Buffalo and Rochester are meeting for the third time this season and first at Sahlen Field. The Red Wings took two of the three games in their last meeting on 5/31-6/2. The teams will meet twice more, once in each city, for four games each between 8/19-22 and 8/26-29.

Today's Starter

RHP Andrew Sopko will take the mound for the Bisons in his ninth start, and just his second since returning from injury in mid-June. He carries a 1-3 record with a 6.03 ERA and a 27:18 K:BB ratio into this game. In his last outting in Charlotte he posted 3.0 IP while allowing four unearned runs on four hits and striking out five batters to just three walks.

Richard Urena

INF Richard Urena ignited the Bisons offense with a two-RBI single in the eighth. On the game, he finished 2-5 with two RBIs and a double coming out of the three-hole in the lineup. Since Independence Day, Urena is hitting .318 (28-88) with 13 RBIs and eight XBHs.

Bisons Bits

With the call up of SS Bo Bichette to the Majors, this is now the third legacy player to pass through Buffalo in 2019, joining Vlad Guerrero Jr. and Cavan Biggio. He made the start at shortstop last night for Toronto while hitting sixth in the lineup and picking up his first hit in the MLB in his first at-bat at Kansas City.

Blue Jays

Toronto (41-67) won the first game of their three-game series with the Kansas City Royals last night, 7-3. Cavan Biggio and Randal Grichuk led the Jays' offense with a combined 6-10 performance with five RBI's and a Grichuk home run. This game also marked the Major League debut of Bo Bichette who went 1-4, recording a hit in his first MLB at-bat. Cheslor Cuthbert and Whit Merrifield led the Royals' offense, collecting all of the team's RBI's, but it wasn't enough to beat out a quality six innings of work by LHP Thomas Pannone and three shutout innings from the Toronto bullpen. Tonight's game has a 8:15 p.m. EDT start time as the Blue Jays try to secure the series win.
