PawSox Snap Losing Streak and Beat the Knights

The PawSox ended a 9-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over Charlotte Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium. Zach Stewart earned the win in his debut with the PawSox after being acquired from the White Sox on June 24. He gave up six hits, one run and struck out four after throwing five innings and two batters. Ryan Lavarnway paced the PawSox offense, going 3 for 4 in the game.

The PawSox took the lead 1-0 in the second inning after Lars Anderson doubled (16) and then scored on an RBI single by Alex Hassan. In the third, Jason Repko led off with a single, Lavarnway followed with another single, and Mauro Gomez hit a 3-run homerun (17) that extended the PawSox lead to 4-0. Dallas McPherson gave the Knights their only run with an RBI single in the sixth. Conor Jackson and McPherson led Charlotte with two hits each.

The PawSox kept the lead after seven innings, 5-1, when Nate Spears led off with a double (12), advanced to third on a bunt by Jon Hee, and scored on an RBI single by Pedro Ciriaco.

Charlie Leesman (7-6) took the loss for the Knights. He gave up seven hits and four runs in five innings. The series continues Thursday night at 7:05 pm. Brandon Duckworth (7-1, 3.68) faces Simon Castro (0-1, 10.80).
