Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Two prominent members of the first-place Lehigh Valley IronPigs -- RHP Tyler Cloyd, and INF Kevin Frandsen -- were chosen to participate in the 25th annual Triple-A All-Star Game to be played on July 11 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, N.Y., the International League announced on Wednesday. The 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game will be nationally televised on the MLB Network, beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.

In his first season pitching at the Triple-A ranks, Tyler Cloyd has emerged as one of the premier pitchers in the International League. The 25-year-old earned IL Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing six perfect innings in a spot start against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees on Opening Night. After four dominant starts for Double-A Reading, Cloyd returned to Lehigh Valley in early May and currently leads the league in WHIP (0.92), ranks second with a 2.17 ERA and is tied for third with seven victories.

Cloyd, drafted by the Phillies in the 18th round of the 2008 draft, will be making his second All-Star appearance and his first since a 2009 South Atlantic League All-Star selection with Class-A Lakewood.

Kevin Frandsen has helped pace the IronPigs offensively and currently leads the team in various offensive categories including batting average (.287), on-base percentage (.327) and multi-hit games (22). The Los Gatos, Calif., native has been the fiercest hitter to strike out in the league this season and his 23 doubles rank second in the circuit. Earlier this season, Frandsen tied a franchise record for hits in a game (5) along with consecutive hits (6).

Frandsen, 30, was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 12th round of the 2004 draft and has accumulated more than three years of Major League service time with the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels.
