(Fort Mill, SC) - Left-handed pitcher Charlie Leesman, along with position players Greg Golson, Dan Johnson and Josh Phegley were chosen to represent the Charlotte Knights at the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game, as announced by the International League earlier today. The 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game will be held on Wednesday, July 11 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY and will feature the International League All-Stars against the Pacific Coast League All-Stars. Charlotte and Pawtucket are the only two IL teams to send four players to the All-Star Game.
Leesman, 25, is a member of the Chicago White Sox 40-man roster and enters his start tonight in Pawtucket with the lowest ERA in the International League at 2.16. In 15 starts this season, the Cincinnati, Ohio native is 7-5 and has allowed just 20 earned runs over 83.1 innings. In five starts this month, Leesman is 3-1 with a 1.76 ERA. Last season, while with Double-A Birmingham, Leesman was a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star.
Golson, 26, was one of the two Knights elected to start the Triple-A All-Star Game. Golson, one of the starting outfielders on the squad, has enjoyed the 2012 season at the plate and in the field. The Texas native is hitting .276 with three home runs, 21 doubles, 48 runs scored, six triples, 36 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Currently, he is first in the International League in at-bats (315), tied for first in hits (87), third in runs scored (48), tied for second in triples (6), and tied for first in outfield assists (10).
Johnson, 32, was elected to start at third base. Currently, Johnson is hitting .286 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs. He is first in the IL in games played (79), second in home runs (18), second in RBIs (57), first in on-base percentage (.428), first in walks (65), and tied for fourth in runs scored (45). In 2010, Johnson participated in both the Triple-A All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. He won the Home Run Derby in Lehigh Valley and at the end of the season, after hitting .303 with 30 home runs and 95 RBIs for Durham, he was named the MVP of the International League.
Phegley, 24, is currently hitting .276 with one home run, 18 doubles, 22 runs scored and 29 RBIs in 64 games for the Knights. His .276 batting average is second among International League catchers. Earlier this season, the Indiana native had a 13-game hit streak (4/13-4/30) and finished the month of April with a .382 batting average.
