Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce that outfielder Corey Brown and starting pitcher Zach Duke have been named to the 2012 International League All-Star Team. The game between the IL and the Pacific Coast League will be played on July 11th at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo.
Brown, in his second season in Syracuse, has hit .298 with this point and leads the Chiefs in home runs (17) and RBI (45). He is currently tenth in the league in batting average and third in homers. The Tampa native is also third in the IL with 37 extra-base hits and fourth with a .578 slugging percentage. At the time of his selection, Brown has hit in 14 consecutive games, the longest hit streak of his six-year career.
Duke, a former Major League All-Star in 2009, leads the International League with nine wins. Eight of those wins have come since May 1st. The 29-year-old Duke is fourth in the International League with 90 innings and a third pitched. He leads the Chiefs with 14 induced double plays.
With the International League's 3-0 victory at last year's Triple-A All-Star Game, the IL owns an 8-6 lead in the fourteen years since the event changed to the current IL vs. PCL format. The winning League this season will once again earn the right to have its champion play as the "home team" at the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game which will take place Tuesday, September 18 in Durham, North Carolina.
