Rochester Red Wings' Pedro Florimon Selected to 2012 International League All-Star Team

ROCHESTER, NY - Red Wings' shortstop Pedro Florimon has been selected to the 2012 International League All-Star Team, which will play the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game July 11 at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field. The selection process included voting from the league's coaching staffs, general managers, and members of the media.

Florimon, who is a reserve behind starting shortstop Pedro Ciriaco of Pawtucket (Red Sox), is batting .260 with seven doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI in 47 games with the Red Wings since his May 7 promotion from Double-A New Britain. The 25-year-old has started at shortstop in 47 of the club's 49 games since his promotion and he has compiled a .969 fielding percentage, committing only six errors in 195 total chances.

Florimon, a switch-hitter, is batting .333 (12-for-36) with four doubles, a triple, and 11 runs scored in his last 10 games to raise his average from .241. He also has seven walks and a .432 on-base percentage in that span.

The Minnesota Twins claimed Florimon off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles December 5, 2011. The Dominican Republic native made his major league debut last September with the Orioles, appearing in four games (two starts) and going 1-for-8 (.125) with a double and two RBI.

Florimon batted .283 in 30 games with New Britain before his promotion to Rochester.
