Great Lakes Loons News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - After a one-hour, 38-minute delay of the first pitch at Fifth Third Field due to rain on Saturday night, the Great Lakes Loons battled until past the midnight hour to secure a 9-4 win and take a two-to-one series advantage over the Dayton Dragons.

Dillon Paulson was a standout performer for the Loons (10-12) going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two walks, and six runs batted in. Paulson has now gone deep in consecutive games and becomes the 24th player in Loons franchise history to hit a grand slam home run.

Other Offensive Standouts

Jacob Amaya: 1-for-1, 2 R, 4 BB (ties franchise record for walks in a game)

Miguel Vargas: 2-for-5, 2 R, 2B (12-game on-base streak) (.472 OBP since April 13 is second highest in the Midwest League)

Team: 10 walks (Fourth time this season with 10+ walks in a game) (Now lead all of professional baseball with 133 total)

On the other side of the ball, Loons starter Andre Jackson dealt five no-hit innings. Jackson (W, 2-1) walked five and struck out four while allowing one unearned run in the win.

Dayton (8-14) has struggled to pitch all year with the league's highest ERA (5.14) and WHIP (1.66) and Saturday was no different. Dragons starter Jhon De Jesus (L, 1-2) granted four earned runs in three innings, then Eddy Demurias allowed four more in 2 2/3.

Jose Martinez (S, 3) delivered the final three innings for the Loons ceding just one Dayton baserunner.

The Loons now have a chance to record three straight victories for the first time this season. Sunday's series finale in scheduled for 2:08 p.m. EDT and features an interesting starting pitching matchup. Great Lakes sends Josiah Gray to the bump. Gray was traded from the Reds to the Dodgers in December in the Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood, Matt Kemp deal otherwise he most likely is currently playing for Dayton. On the flip side, the Dragons throw James Marinan. Marinan was originally drafted by the Dodgers and is most likely playing for the Loons this season if not for being traded to the Reds last July. Radio pregame coverage begins at 1:38 p.m. EDT on ESPN 100.9-FM.

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
