Paul Fixter takes leave of absence from team

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that head coach Paul Fixter has taken a leave of absence from the team for family medical reasons. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst. Fixter's father Frank will undergo open-heart surgery on Wednesday in Kitchener, Ontario.

Fixter is expected to miss Wednesday's game with the St. John's Maple Leafs and Friday's game at Norfolk against the Admirals. Assistant coach Paul Jerrard will serve as interim head coach, while Colorado Avalanche vice president of player personnel Michel Goulet will serve as Jerrard's assistant coach.

The BEARS play on Wednesday at home against the St. John's Maple Leafs before traveling to Norfolk to play the Admirals on Friday night. HERSHEY is also at home this weekend against the Philadelphia Phantoms and Binghamton Senators.
