Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators won three games last week and are now alone in second place in the East Division – three points behind the Philadelphia Phantoms.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 12TH @ PHILADELPHIA (4-2 W): DENIS HAMEL scored a pair of power-play goal as the B-Sens earned an important win against the East Division leading Philadelphia Phantoms. ARPAD MIHALY got Binghamton on the board first with a goal 9:20 into the game. BRANDON BOCHENSKI scored the game-winning goal about midway through the second period and RAY EMERY played well in goal making 29 saves on 31 shots to earn the victory. Binghamton's power-play continued to click as the B-Sens converted on two of four opportunities in the game. They held the Phantoms without a power-play goal on four chances. The Sens have won their last two road games against Philadelphia.

FRIDAY, JAN. 14TH vs. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (4-3 ot W): RAMZI ABID scored only three minutes into the game to give the Penguins an early lead, but Binghamton scored the next three goals and led 3-1 with less than 10 minutes to play in the game. Wilkes-Barre did not go away though and managed to tie the game with less than two seconds to play when ABID scored his second goal of the game during a scramble in front of the net. Binghamton would regroup and defenseman JESSE FIBIGER scored his first game-winning goal with the Senators at 1:35 of the extra period. BILLY THOMPSON won his franchise-record sixth straight game, making 33 saves on 36 shots. The Sens power play was again effective with Binghamton connecting on two of four chances. Wilkes-Barre managed one power-play goal on six opportunities.

SATURDAY, JAN. 15TH vs. ROCHESTER (5-1 W): Rochester goalie RYAN MILLER had only allowed one goal in his last three starts prior to Saturday's game in Binghamton, but the B-Sens were able to get four goals by MILLER in the first 12:02 of the game. ANTON VOLCHENKOV scored his fourth goal of the season at 6:40 of the first period. BRIAN McGRATTAN scored on a breakaway less than two minutes later and ANTOINE VERMETTE scored two goals less than three minutes apart to give the B-Sens and insurmountable 4-0 lead. CHRISTOPH SCHUBERT scored the B-Sens final goal at 10:20 of the third period. RAY EMERY stopped 26 of 27 shots to pick up his third straight win. Neither team scored a power-play goal, but the B-Sens did score their league-leading eleventh short-handed goal of the season.

THIS WEEK: The Manchester Monarchs come to town on Friday evening with the league's best record. Manchester is 29-7-3-1 – good for 62 points. Binghamton will head up I-81 following Friday's game for a Saturday contest with the St. John's Maple Leafs in Ottawa. The week will end with the Senators playing Hershey at the Giant Center on Sunday at 5 p.m.

FRIDAY, JAN. 21ST vs. MANCHESTER (7:05 p.m.): The Monarchs are off to a hot start and begin this week on top of the Atlantic Division with 62 points in 40 games thanks in large part to a 13-game winning streak between Nov. 6 and Dec. 4. The game will feature four of the league's top five scorers. JASON SPEZZA is on top of the scoring chart with 60 points. Manchester's MICHAEL CAMMALLERI is second with 57 points, YANICK LEHOUX is third with 54 points and TOM KOSTOPOULOS is fifth with 48 points. The game will also serve as a homecoming for Manchester forward DUSTIN BROWN who played for Ithaca High School from 1998 to 2000.

SATURDAY, JAN. 22nd vs. ST. JOHN'S (@ Corel Center – Ottawa, ON – 7:05 p.m.): The AHL Battle of Ontario resumes in Ottawa as the Binghamton Senators take on the Toronto Maple Leafs AHL affiliate at the Corel Centre. St. John's has already defeated the Senators three times this season including two games played at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto in early December. The Maple Leafs beat the Senators 1-0 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in the most recent contest between the teams. RAY EMERY lost that goaltending dual but stopped 23 of 24 shots. Saturday's game will be the last regular season contest between Binghamton and St. John's. Next season the St. John's franchise will relocate to Toronto.

SUNDAY, JAN. 23rd @ HERSHEY (5 p.m.): The Sens will travel to Hershey on Sunday for a contest with their East Division rivals. The last trip to Hershey was not a memorable one for the Sens as they were defeated by a 7-3 score. CHARLIE STEPHENS scored a goal against his former team, but there were few other bright spots in the B-Sens loss. RAY EMERY stopped 32 of 37 shots for the Senators.
