The Barons and Mighty Ducks will play the fifth game of the Labatt Blue Cup on Wednesday night. The teams each have two wins in the series, with the home team victorious in each game. Ryane Clowe leads all skaters with six points in the series (2-4-6). His two goals are tied for the series lead and his four assists lead everyone. Nolan Schaefer is 1-1-0 against Cincinnati this season, posting a 1.51 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. Neither team has been very successful on the power play, combining for an 8.3% conversion rate. The Barons have been the better of the two teams with a 10.5% mark in 19 attempts. The Barons are the defending champions of the Labatt Blue Cup, awarded annually to the team that wins the season series.

The Barons will hammer out their season's two road games in Utah this weekend. The Barons defeated the Grizzlies in an epic shootout on December 3rd, 3-2. Nolan Schaefer and David LeNeveu squared off in a 16-round shootout, the longest recorded in AHL history. Schaefer bested LeNeveu stopping 14 of the 16 shooters. Garrett Stafford ended the madness in the 16th round, beating LeNeveu for his second shootout conversion of the night. Ryane Clowe and Patrick Rissmiller scored the goals for the Barons on the night.
Flashback
1/12/05 Syracuse 1 â Cleveland 0... The Cleveland Barons met the Syracuse Crunch at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH, home of the Crunch's NHL affiliate Columbus Blue Jackets. The Barons were shutout for the eighth time this season as the Crunch's Karl Goehring made 24 saves. The lone goal was scored by Jeff Panzer in the second period on a face-off play. Dimitri Patzold made 32 saves on the night, but suffered the defeat.
1/14/05 Cleveland 6 â Syracuse 4... After being shutout by goaltender Karl Goehring two nights earlier, the Barons beat him five times in a 6-4 win. Josh Prudden notched his fourth game-winning goal and second multi-point night of the season in helping the Barons snap a five-game road losing streak. Jason Jaffray recorded his first career two-goal performance in the victory. Nolan Schaefer made 31 saves in earning his eighth win of the season. Ryane Clowe also had a multi-point performance, recording two assists.
1/15/05 Cleveland 4 â Syracuse 2... The Barons built a 4-0 lead through two periods in knocking off Syracuse 4-2. With the win, the Barons took two out of three consecutive games against the Crunch. Josh Prudden matched his total from the previous night with one goal and one assist, his third multi-point game of the season. Josh Gorges snapped a 39-game pointless streak, the longest in the AHL, to score his first professional goal. Dimitri Patzold faced a 40 shots on net, tied for the most that he has seen this season, in gaining the win.
Cleveland Barons Hockey Insider Show The Cleveland Barons Hockey Insider Show will air every Monday night from 8-9pm on SportsTalk 850-AM WKNR. The weekly show will be hosted by The Voice of the Barons Jamie Smock and Jason Gibbs, Promotions Director for WKNR. The show can also be heard on www.sportstalkcleveland.com.
Up And West The Barons will play their next three games against teams from the West Division. The Barons have fared well against the West Division over the last two seasons posting a 25-12-4-5 record. That is good for a .641 winning percentage as they have gained at least one point in 73.9% of the games (34/46). This season, the Barons are 10-5-1-2 against the West.
On The Road, Still After the three games this week, the Barons will have played 10 of their last 13 games on the road. Thus far, the Barons are 2-5-0-0 in the seven games to date, losing the first five and winning the last two. On the season, the Barons are 8-12-0-1.
Natural Born Killers In the last 11 games, the Barons have a 89.8% success rate in killing penalties (44/49). The Barons have allowed just 12 power play goals in the last 24 games. They have killed 93 out of a possible 105 penalties in that span for an 88.6% success rate on the PK.
St. Edward vs. St. Ignatius The St. Edward Eagles will host the St. Ignatius Wildcats on Saturday, January 29th at 3:45pm on National City Rink located in Gund Arena. The game will take place prior to the Barons vs. St. John's game at 7:00pm. It is the second season that the two teams will play prior to the Barons. Last season, St. Edward defeated St. Ignatius 3-2, despite a late charge by the Wildcats. A ticket to the Barons game will grant admission to all of the day's festivities. The first 3,000 fans in the building will receive a Barons T-Shirt. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Barons front office at 216-420-0000.
Promotion Added
The first 1,000 fans that attend the Barons game against the St. John's Maple Leafs on Friday, January 28th will receive a blanket courtesy of the Ohio Department of Insurance. It is part of the "Get Smart About Insurance Week" program.
If It Wasn't For Those Meddling Barons
Courtesy of Cox Communications, Scooby-Doo will be in attendance for the Barons game against the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, February 5th at 1:00pm. Kids will get the chance to take pictures with everyone's favorite cartoon dog.
Money In The "Bank" National City Rink has been kind to the Barons lately. In their last 16 games on National City Rink, the Barons are 10-5-0-1. The Barons have not allowed a power play goal in over four home games. They have killed 15 consecutive penalties on home ice.
It's Great At The Gund
Gund Arena has been kind to its home teams since November 10th. Combined, the Barons (10-5-0-1) and Cavaliers (13-2) are 23-7-0-1 since that date. In hockey terms, that is a combined winning percentage of .758.
Passing Proficiency
The last 18 power play goals by the Barons have been assisted by two players. The Barons currently have 29 power play goals this season. With 56 assists, all but one of those goals has been accompanied by two assists. The one goal that did not have two assists came on November 6th in the Barons win over Hamilton in overtime. The Barons first goal of the game, scored by Christian Ehrhoff on the power play, was assisted by Marcel Goc.
Barons Player of the Week
The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is left wing Josh Prudden. Prudden recorded back-to-back 1 goal, 1 assist nights to help the Barons take two out of three games against Syracuse. Each night on the weekend, Prudden assisted on the game's first goal. On Friday, he scored the game-winning goal unassisted. On Saturday, Prudden scored an unassisted short-handed goal. On the week, he posted 2 goals and 2 assists in three games with a +4 plus/minus and 5 shots.
No Joshing
Josh Prudden has a knack for big goals. His 4 game-winning goals this season are tied for first among league rookies and tied for ninth among all skaters. With eight goals on the season, Prudden is tied for 11th among rookies. Those 8 goals are tied for first on the team among rookies with Shane Joseph.
Strapping On The Boots
Nick Bootland has recorded a point in the last two games (1-1-2). He scored the game's first goal against Syracuse on Friday night. That goal puts him just three goals short of 100 professional goals as he stands at 97. Bootland has four goals and two assists in 40 games this season.
Gorgeous Gorges
Josh Gorges recorded his first professional point on Saturday, scoring the game's first goal against Syracuse. The point came in his 40th game of the season, the longest pointless streak in AHL.
The Clowe-ser
Ryane Clowe has been on fire over the last 17 games. In that 17-game span, Clowe has 17 points (4-13-17) and a +6 plus/minus rating. His 30 points, 22 assists, and +7 plus/minus rating all lead the Barons. His 22 assists are tied for 20th in the league. Clowe has been productive on the power play as he is tied for the team lead with 11 points and five power play goals. Clowe's four-point performance on 12/12 against Cincinnati tied a career-high and set the Barons season-high mark.
Air Ehrhoff
Christian Ehrhoff's three game-winning goals are tied for first among defensemen. Ehrhoff leads the Barons in shots with 139 on the season. Those 139 shots lead all AHL defensemen and are tied for 7th overall. Ehrhoff tied a Barons franchise record on November 6th against Hamilton with 10 shots. Ehrhoff is also mixed in the defenseman leader board in several other categories including: goals (T-3rd, 7), power play goals (T-2nd, 5), and points (T-15th,19).
Riss Shot
Patrick Rissmiller is second on the Barons all-time list with 109 points, 68 assists, and 41 goals. Rissmiller leads the Barons with 13 goals this season. His 24 points (13-11-22) and 111 shots are both second on the Barons. Rissmiller is out of the lineup due to injury.
