New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Binghamton, NY- Ryan Patterson belted a two-run, game-winning home run in the top of the 10th inning to lift the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a dramatic 7-5 victory over the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium on Thursday night. The home run was Patterson's fourth in the last five games, giving the Fisher Cats their fifth straight extra-inning victory and their seventh win in their last eight games.

Patterson's home run, his 10th, came on a 2-1 pitch from losing pitcher Joe Serfass (3-3) with Chip Cannon on first base, clearing the wall in left-centerfield for the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game.

Matt Roney (1-1) worked two perfect innings of relief to earn his first Fisher Cats' victory. Tracy Thorpe struck out two batters in the ninth to earn his fifth save in seven opportunities.

Serfass allowed two runs on one hit in two innings to suffer the defeat.

New Hampshire (46-38) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Aaron Mathews (1-for-4, RBI) against Mets' starter Michael Devaney.

Binghamton (35-48) tied it, 1-1, when Lastings Milledge, playing in his first game of the year for the Mets, drilled Ricky Romero's second pitch of the game over the centerfield wall.

The Mets grabbed a 2-1 lead when Drew Butera doubled, advanced to third on a Robinzon Diaz passed ball and scored on a Romero wild pitch.

New Hampshire reclaimed the lead, 3-2, with two runs in the top of the fifth against Devaney. Manny Mayorson (2-for-4, 3B, RBI, 2 R, BB) tripled to left field, scoring Dustin Majewski, who singled, all the way from first base. Diaz (2-for-5, RBI, SB) singled to left field, plating Mayorson.

Binghamton forged a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning against Jo Matumoto when Mark Kiger (2-for-4, 3B, 2B, 2 R, BB) tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

David Smith staked New Hampshire to a 5-3 lead with his eighth home run of the year, a two-run blast off Devaney in the top of the sixth inning over the wall in left-centerfield that scored Cannon (2-for-4, 2 R, BB).

The Mets erased that deficit with three consecutive doubles from Kiger, Mike Carp (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, R), and Caleb Stewart (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, BB) in the bottom of the seventh inning against Jean Machi, knotting the game, 5-5.

The Fisher Cats and the Mets play the rubber match of their three-game series Friday night at 7:05pm. New Hampshire right-hander Ismael Ramirez (1-0, 0.87) will look for a franchise-record 17th career Fisher Cats' victory when he matches up with Binghamton right-hander Bobby Parnell (0-2, 3.54). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter) with Mike Murphy.
