SeaWolves, R-Phils Suspended In The Fifth

The SeaWolves and Reading Phillies waited out another rain delay to begin Thursday night's game at First Energy Stadium and the teams would end up not finishing following the late start. The teams will pick up the game in the fifth inning on Thursday night and the final game of the three-game series will follow.

The R-Phils got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Jovan Moran led off with a single and he stole second for his 21st stolen base of the year. Jesus Merchan walked to put runners on first and second. With one out, Jason Hill walked to load the bases for Greg Jacobs. Jacobs doubled home a pair of runs for a 2-0 Reading lead.

Erie responded in the top of the second inning. With one out, Steve Torrealba hit his sixth home run of the season and his third in the last three games to put the ‘Wolves on the board, cutting the Reading lead down to 2-1.

The Phillies scored another run in the bottom of the second. Peeter Ramos singled and reached second on a wild pitch. Ramos got to third on a groundout by Michael Garciaparra and he scored on a Moran sacrifice fly for a 3-1 lead.

Kown settled down following the sacrifice fly, retiring the final seven batters he faced in the game as he tossed four innings.

Matt Maloney yielded a run on three hits in four innings of work.

The ‘Wolves and R-Phils will pick up in the fifth inning in game one of a doubleheader on Friday night...6:05 First Pitch. A seven-inning ballgame for game three of the series will follow.
