Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Ron Garth's pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the eleventh inning gave the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 4-3 win over the Burlington Bees Sunday afternoon. The Rattlers broke Burlington's seven game winning streak and their own four game losing skid with extra inning victory. The Bees scored just three runs in the game despite getting the leadoff batter aboard to start ten of the eleven innings.

Burlington (19-22) got the early lead with a run in the top of the first on an RBI fielder's choice by catcher JP Lowen.

The Rattlers (18-25) evened the game on a sacrifice fly by JB Tucker in the bottom of the first.

Lowen doubled to start the Bee half of the fourth and scored on a two-out single by Jose Duarte.

Wisconsin tied the game again with a two-out RBI single by Jeff Dominguez in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Lowen struck again in the top of the seventh. He cracked a two-out RBI double to leftcenter and the Bees led 3-2.

But, Wisconsin answered again in the bottom of the seventh. Tucker doubled with one out. Robby Hudson smoked a two-out double off Bee closer Gilbert de la Vara to drive home Tucker with the tying run.

In the top of the ninth, Burlington had runners at first and third with one out and Lowen due to hit. The Rattlers went to the bullpen and brought lefty David Asher in to face the left-hand hitting Lowen. But, Burlington went to the bench and brought in right hander Miguel Vega to hit for Lowen. Asher won the match-up by getting Vega to ground into an inning ending double play.

Burlington put runners on the corners with one out in the top of the tenth, but Asher escaped again to keep the score 3-3.

Josh Johnson drew a walk, his fifth of the game, to start the top of the eleventh inning off Joe Woerman and was sacrificed to second. Casey Craig ran down a deep flyball to rightcenter off the bat of Mario Lisson for the second out. Woerman finished off the inning by striking out Vega.

Garth worked the count to 3-2 against reliever Eliezer Garcia and lined his fourth home run of the season off the scoreboard in leftcenter for the game winning home run. The pinch hit homer was the first by a Rattler since Jeremy Dutton hit one at Cedar Rapids on July 10, 2004.

The Rattlers and Bees meet in game three of the series Monday morning. Justin Thomas (4-3, 1.86) will be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Michael Penn (2-1, 4.02ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Bees. Game time is 11:35am.
