Chiefs Make It Two Straight Over Beloit With Comeback Win

Peoria, IL - Two-out clutch hitting helped aid a big sixth and seventh innings en route to a Peoria Chiefs 8-4 come from behind victory over the Beloit Snappers Sunday afternoon at O'Brien Field in front of a crowd of 4,338 fans.

The Chiefs tied it with three in the sixth and scored three more in the seventh to take the lead for good. Trailing 4-1 in the sixth, the Chiefs loaded the bases with no outs. Brandon Taylor bounced into a double play scoring Jesus Valdez and leaving Ryan Norwood over at third. With two outs now, Kyle Reynolds knocked an RBI double to left and came in to score himself on a run scoring single off the bat of Alberto Garcia to tie the game at four.

Peoria plated three more in the bottom of inning number seven. With one out, Robinson Chirinos reached on a fielding error by first baseman Eric Lis. Valdez struck out for out number two, but Chirinos stole second to put the go ahead runner in scoring position. The Chiefs continued their hot hitting with two outs and runners in scoring position when Norwood roped a double down the left field line to score Chirinos and give the home team their first lead of the game. Mark Reed grounded one to second but reached on another fielding error by Lis and Norwood came around to score from second. The next batter was Taylor who scorched a double into left-center to bring home Reed and make it a 7-4 ball game.

The Chiefs added some insurance in the eighth on an RBI infield single by Chirinos scoring pinch-runner Matt Ciaramella.

The Snappers struck first in the second. A two-out RBI single by Caleb Moore scored Paul Kelly to make it a 1-0 game.

Peoria notched their first run in their half of the third. With one out and Davy Gregg on second, Chirinos smoked a double in the gap in left-center to score Gregg and knot it at one.

Beloit broke the tie when Lis homered on a fly ball to right field and Caleb Moore knocked his second two-out run scoring single of the afternoon to give the Snappers a 3-1 lead.

Lis and Kelly had to back-to-back doubles in the sixth to add another run for the Snappers and give them a three run lead at 4-1.

Starter Scott Taylor got a no-decision. The righty went six innings and gave up four runs on nine hits, striking out two. Mike Billek was lights out out of the pen for the Chiefs. He picked up the win in relief firing two hitless frames while striking out three. Jeff Teasley pitched a scoreless ninth to end it. Snappers' starter Kyle Waldrop got a no-decision and reliever David Shinskie picked up the loss allowing four runs, only one of them earned, in two innings of work.

Robinson Chirinos (2B) - The Chiefs' second baseman reached base four times on his way to a 2-4 afternoon which included a double and 2 RBIs. He also scored the go-ahead run in the seventh that put the Chiefs up for good.

Notes... The Chiefs have won their last eight out of ten at O'Brien Field......Jesus Valdez extended his hitting streak to 13 games when he slapped a solid single to left to lead off the sixth..... Attendance Sunday afternoon was 4,338 .....RHP Todd Blackford (3-1, 5.36) will start on the mound tomorrow for the Chiefs going up against LHP Brian Duensing (2-1, 2.06) of the Beloit Snappers...First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM and the pre-game show will kick-off at 6:15 on www.peoriachiefs.com.
