
Lugnuts Win Wacky Game

LANSING - For the second consecuutive day, the Lansing Lugnuts scored 11 runs in a win over the Fort Wayne Wizards. But this win was much harder to come by than Saturday's. Lansing erased a five run deficit and overcame four errors in an 11-8 victory on Sunday afternoon before 3,929 fans at Oldsmobile Park.
Lansing trailed 5-0 in the fourth before scoring four runs to cut the lead to one. Jesus Gonzalez ripped a single to plate Yuber Rodriguez for the Lugnuts' first run of the game. After two walks loaded the bases with two out, Joey Metropoulos drew a walk to plate Gonzalez and make the score 5-2. Anthony Hatch then lifted a double down the left field line to plate two more runs that pulled the Lugnuts to within one run.
Fort Wayne answered with two runs in the top half of the fifth, including a Chad Steiner infield single to make the score 7-4.
Lansing's Brian Pettway then smacked his eighth homer of the season to make the score 7-5 in the fifth.
The Lugnuts tied the game in the sixth when Josh Bell ripped a two run single to center field, completeing the comeback for Lansing.
After a quiet seventh, Fort Wayne regained the lead in the eighth. Mike Sansoe singled and scored later in the inning when Bell threw a ball past third base as Sansoe was moving from second base on a wild pitch. The run put the Wizards ahead 8-7.
Lansing took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the eighth. Anthony Garibaldi scampered home after a throwing error by Chad Steiner to tie the game at 8-8. With runners at first and third, Bell stepped up and smacked a double off of the right field wall to drive in Anthony Hatch to make the score 9-8. A Jacob Butler two run single later in the frame capped off the scoring, as Lansing took its second straight game.
Lansing (25-17) and Fort Wayne (21-20) will play the third game of the series on Monday night at Oldsmobile Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
