Burlington Bees News Release

Appleton, WI (May 20, 2006) - The Burlington Bees (19-21) had just one hit through eight innings, but in the top of the ninth turned two hits, two walks, two hit batsmen, and two fielder's choices into four runs to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (17-25) 4-1 at Fox Cities Stadium tonight. The Bees extended their winning streak to seven in a row while the Timber Rattlers have lost four straight.

The Timber Rattlers scored their only run thanks to an error in the bottom of the first inning. Jeff Dominguez led off with a single and stole second. After a strikeout and a walk, Dominguez took off to steal third and when JP Lowen's throw sailed high into left, Dominguez came into score. Bees' starter David Henninger then struck out Curtis Ledbetter, hit Casey Craig with a pitch, and got Ron Garth to groundout to end the inning to make the run unearned. Henninger would work through a career-high six innings and allowed five hits and one walk while striking out six. Cody Harkcom got out of two jams to pitch two scoreless innings. Harkcom stranded a leadoff double in the seventh and got out of a bases loaded, no-out situation in the eighth with a force out at the plate and a 4-3 double play.

Rattlers' starter Jose Escalona walked five and struck out seven and didn't allow a hit through the first five innings. Lowen lined a single to center with one out in the sixth, but Escalona would finish the inning and add one more strikeout to set season-highs for innings pitched and K's. Joe Woerman picked up where Escalona left off and allowed one walk and no hits through the next two innings. Closer Edgar Guaramato came in for the ninth and got Lowen to ground out to start the inning before the rally began:

Miguel Vega hit a line drive off the glove of Guaramato and the ball rolled toward second. Dominguez raced in to pick it up, but fired wide at first allowing Vega to go to second. The play was scored a single and an error. Ethien Santana pinch-ran for Vega and Jeremy Jirschele worked a walk to put two men on base. Guaramato hitamato hit Valentino Arce with a pitch to load the bases. Jose Duarte came up and tried to check his swing on the first pitch, but made contact and hit a slow roller to first. Chao Kuan Wu's throw to the plate was late and Santana slid across the dish with the tying run. Pinch-hitter Carlos Arroyo, a former Timber Rattler, hit a chopper to third that went off the glove of Ron Garth for an infield single that drove in Jirschele with the go-ahead run. Josh Johnson hit a ball to the mound and Guaramato threw home to force out Duarte, but then Guaramato walked Chris McConnell and hit Mario Lisson with a pitch to force in two insurance runs. David Asher came in to get the final out after the Bees sent ten men to the plate.

Kraig Schambough came in for the bottom of the ninth and set the Rattlers down in order to earn his third save of the season. Harkcom (1-0) picked up the win. Guaramato (1-2) was charged with his third blown save.

The Bees and Timber Rattlers continue this series tomorrow afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. RH Carlos Rosa (3-3, 2.41) will start for the Bees against RH Jason Snyder (2-4, 5.05) for the Rattlers. The game starts at 1:05 and will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 12:45.
