Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Andy Parrino's fourth-inning grand slam put Sacramento ahead 4-3, but the River Cats ultimately lost to the Salt Lake Bees by a score of 9-5 at Raley Field on Thursday night.
Salt Lake jumped out to an early lead, registering three runs in the top of the first on two run-scoring singles-one from Kole Calhoun, scoring Matt Long, and another from Luis Rodriguez, scoring Calhoun and Tommy Field. After two-straight scoreless frames, Parrino capitalized on his bases-loaded opportunity, depositing a 1-1 pitch into the River Cats bullpen in right field.
Scott Moore led off the inning with a single through the hole at shortstop, followed by Michael Taylor and Stephen Vogt singles to center field. After Moore was forced out at home on a Daric Barton fielder's choice, Parrino came to plate and put the Cats ahead 4-3 with one swing of the bat.
Unfortunately for Sacramento, Salt Lake tied the game in the top of the fifth with a run-scoring single from Field, and then took the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth. The Bees tacked on three more runs-two in the eighth and one in the ninth-pulling off the 9-5 victory.
Josh Reddick-making his third rehab start with Sacramento-finished 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout, and is now 2-for-11 with five runs, two steals, three walks and one strikeout with Sacramento. Parrino finished 1-for-4 with four RBIs, while Taylor and Vogt each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jemile Weeks scored Sacramento's fifth and final run after legging out a triple to left field in the seventh.
Cats starter Travis Banwart (2-2) suffered the loss, giving up six runs-four earned-on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings. The win was awarded to Bees starter Barry Enright (2-2), who gave up four earned on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in five innings.
The series finale is set for 7:05 p.m. on Fireworks Friday when A's top prospect Sonny Gray (5-2, 2.38 ERA) takes on Bees right-hander Billy Buckner (4-2, 4.56 ERA) on Zoo Night at Raley Field.
